Hi ! I had laproscopic umbilical hernia surgery on 01/12/18. I was healing ok the 1st 5 days but after that I have had a lot of weird symptoms and severe anxiety. Weird symptoms include; light-headedness,dizziness, head fog, dull aching headache, a cough (& Im not sick w/a cold) heart palpations, insomnia. I’ve had these symptoms every single day since 1/17/18. The weird dull aching headaches and dizziness is constant 24/7 no matter what I do & the anxiety is mainly at night. I have had 13 ER visits with 2 hospital stays both equaling to 5 days. The Dr.’s have ran every blood test imaginable and every CT Scan, X-Ray, MRI possible. All are normal except thyroid levels which made me hyperthyroid. I am on 20 mg per day on methimazole which I’ve taken before so I have no probs with the methimazole. I didn’t take any Rx pain meds after surgery just over the counter tylenol and for only 3 days. The Dr.’s are all clueless about what’s wrong with me. All the 16 Dr.’s I have seen since this started told me it was anxiety. I have been Rx Ativan, Zoloft, Xanax, Escitalopram oxalate all 5mg each. I haven’t taken any of them. I just wanted to see if these symptoms would stop on their own. It has been 56 days straight of pure agony. Im trying decide if I should just take the anxiety medication that was given but I do not want to take these meds or get addicted to them. I also do not want any side effects they may have. I already have enough to deal with. I am starting to give up and having weird bad thoughts. Im trying to be strong and deal with this and put on a brave face in front of my family but this is really getting harder each day. I can’t even sleep. I’m constantly jolted up out of my sleep by heart palpations which make me start to panic and there starts the cycle. I’ve seen a cardiologist, pulmonolgist, endocrinologist, eye Dr., Dentist, neurologist, gastric Dr., and my primary care. All have the same answers. Nothing is wrong. But I feel like EVERYTHING IS WRONG. Did anyone else have anything similar happen ?

You are choosing to suffer. You should take the antidepressants that your doctor recommends. They don't have significant side effects. It is possible that the surgery was very traumatic for you, perhaps subconsciously, and you have to try to get over this. Also, try to exercise, increasing the amount you do a little bit every day.
Thank you for your reply. I think the surgery was traumatic for me. It didn’t feel like it at that time & I was totally fine going in for the surgery, I didn’t feel stressed about it but I guess subconsciously I was. I thought I was calm and ok before surgery. I guess not. I may just take 1 of the antidepressant medications. Seems like this won’t be going away anytime soon on it’s on.
