Sick son

Hi all, I'm looking for some answers. I have a 15 year old son who is constantly sick for about a year and a half but almost constantly for the past year. He is now depressed and anxious and on Prozac since August which has helped with his depression. But he continues to be sick all the time. He has gone through various tests, including gastric tests to determine why he vomits so frequently. All the tests came back fine. Can his immune system be suppressed due to depression? What can I do to improve his immune system? He takes vitamin D, E, fish oil, and probiotics. I am so worried this will never end.

I forgot to add that he also sleeps very poorly and has had this problem for over 2 years.

Hello

I am so sorry what you are going through this must be a huge concern to you

You seem to be doing all you can and maybe someone will see your post and have some suggestions for you :-)

I do know with anxiety it can make your immune system low but not sure about depression

Have you looked at the Action on Depression Community on Health Unlocked ?

You can be a member on more than one Community and I will put you the link that will take you straight to the Depression site and maybe if you put your post on there as well you will get more input on what could help :-)

Take Care x

Thank you. I'll have to see if we have papayas and mangoes at this time of year.

KC, it is difficult to see a child a struggle with these things. I said it before but, I will say it again. Purchase the book by Dr. Claire Weekes,"Hope and Help for Your Nerves." It talks a lot about how to deal with these issues and how our body is related to our minds. It would help both of you to have a clear understanding because must likely, he will have to deal with this for the rest of his life (I have anxiety and depression since I was 9.)The key here is to learn how to control these symptoms and emotions, so he can live free of fears and worries, and start enjoying his life. It is okay to have these feelings as long as we learn to find our way out. Finding a good support from close friends and entertainment also help at this age. Isolation is the worst thing we can do for our state of mind. I wish you both the best. You will be in my prayers.

XOXO

How to you manage the anxiety? The Prozac has taken the edge off but he still struggles with anxiety daily.

I know. For me personally, I am always in search of ways to manage my anxiety. Once I started crafting, and it really helped me use my creative side and control my nerves because I was focused doing something else than worrying about my heartbeat. drawing is also soothing for me. I also started doing yoga and meditation. I just started exercising little by little. And I have been pushing myself to get out of the house more. I work from home, so I was getting too afraid of driving. Everything needs to be done in slow increments, so he doesn't get overwhelmed. A therapist can also help a lot. I tried it too and it really did help me talk about my fears and concerns. And finally (although it should be my first) I just seek God for answers and strength. It is not easy, but you and your son are not alone and this support group is the best so far!

He has also been an introvert since he was young so isolation is another issue we are dealing with. This is so hard!!

Thank you. I will look into the book. And I spoke with him just this morning that he is going to have to figure out how he will manage this as I think it is part of his future.
