Woman question..Added anxiety whilst on period?

The past 2 months, I've had increased anxiety whilst on my period. I'm sure it's because that I know that I need extra iron, and scared to go out because what if I faint or feel dizzy due to low iron levels. Does anyone else get this?

I would also like to know that...as I know I'm due in the next week or two and I've started feeling horrendous again

Do you take iron supplements? Ferrograd is good as its about 100mg, most supplements are only15 mg. Sometimes I take them all month sometimes just at period time. Best to take them with vit c as well for absorption.

I think there is a strong connection...the slight increase in body temp and evening sickness has become much more noticable since my anxiety returned...as for the iron thing, when I was pregnant used to carry packet of dried apricots - good stuff, sugar and iron...anything to avoid the iron pills as v. prone to (sorry unpleasentness) constipation, the vit c works well - brocolli is the secret food here - again with the pill avoidance...

good luck

Thank you for your replies. Hmm quite interesting about the sickness.. The past 2 months, I have felt sick in the morning and sometimes evening (before bed) about 2 weeks before I'm due on, whilst I'm on and then it disappears after I come off of my monthly. I get this gagging feeling.. Like I just want to gag. It's quite odd. I debated about taking iron supplements, but I'm a bit worried of taking in too much iron as I've read that too much iron could possibly be quite bad. Maybe I'm reading too much haha, I shouldn't when it makes my anxiety worse! I'll buy some dried apricots, and prune juice and just have more iron rich foods during the week. Ooh and dark chocolate too ;) haha xxx

Interesting. I usually feel better after my period starts, it's the week leading up to it when I feel more tense and anxious, very tired and less able to cope with the day to day irritations.

I used to get really depressed around my periods and that could last for weeks because i got used to being down. However i did find that anxiety wasnt as intense because i was so low i wasnt feeling much else. Doctor put me on the pill and has helped massively. I used to gag every morning thats probably just a way that the anxiety is showing itself in physical symptoms, it will probably go away but will be replaced by something new hahah! What happened to me anyway x

I definitely get more anxious when on my period, I always put it down to the fact that more hormone levels go haywire at this time, I have more mood swings, get more tearful and feel more down, I just get through it every month and am relieved when it's over! Xx

read about the hormones in the cycle marieclaire.com/health-fitn... and keep a diary for a few months to get to know your cycle, I keep hearing calcium is important both medical and holistic advisors agree on that.

Thank you for your replies. I was getting such a painful headache, it made me feel off balance. Well I came on, and the headache has near enough gone and I don't feel sick. I'm really starting to dread the 2 weeks before I'm due, and I went out yesterday and my anxiety was a lot worse! Even going across the road to the shop with my partner felt terrifying to do. I've eaten more iron rich foods, and kept well hydrated. I'll have a look at that hozo, thanks. xxx
