I’m reaching out because I’ve been struggling with what my doctors suspect is gastritis, though I haven’t yet had an endoscopy to confirm it. My health anxiety is through the roof, and I’m really looking for some reassurance that my symptoms are normal.
I’ve tried omeprazole without much luck and have recently started famotidine, but I’m still having flare-ups. I was wondering if anyone here has anything similar and could share their experiences? What symptoms do you deal with, and how do you manage them? Is it normal to have good days and bad days with gastritis?
Health anxiety makes this all so much harder, and it’s been affecting my mood a lot. I’d love to hear from others who are dealing with the same thing – any advice or words of encouragement would really help me feel less alone.
Thanks so much in advance!

I always have had gut problems my whole life. But after menopause and Covid... the problem is on Steroids. It's well known that when we internalize stress ...it plays hell on our digestive system in general. And we are only now really appreciating the extent our gut play's out in even mental health. Ulcers, yeast infections, digestion problems, and even mental health because the gut is a big part, responsible for our over all well-being. The bacteria in our gut produces probiotics which fight off being over taken by bad bugs and yeasts. And our gut produces the majority of the Serotonin in the body, not the brain..at least 70 percent of our immune system is aimed at the gut to expel and kill foreign invaders.
So it's a linked response when we are not emotionally healthy, and how it affects our gut. And I'm glad your getting the professional help in narrowing down your health issues regarding your gut. I take Probiotics to help balance out my damaged system. It might be something to ask your doctors about.
Omeprazole has helped me a lot, I was told to take it in the morning, 30 minutes before food. Certain foods should be avoided though, I avoid spicy food, onions, cooked cabbage and should avoid MSG and lactose in the form of cold milk, when I don't I know about it, but the feeling of being one large digestive tract and it keeping it me awake at night constantly passing wind and belching has stopped, much to my relief. I hope that you find something that works for you. Dee
I hope that somebody with gastritis will respond to your note! I have gastrointestinal issues, but not gastritis. Assuredly someone with the same condition that you have will be able to talk with you here. Best of luck! Thinking about you.
