Physical Symptoms

What are some physical symptoms you feel when your anxious? I feel dizziness, nervous, scared and I have a hard time concentrating and I have negative thoughts due to how I'm feeling.

It's like my brain goes into overdrive and I'm trying to slow it down.

What helps? Anything?

"Anxiety is from having low tolerance of uncertainty. That causes small possibilities of something going wrong spiral into bigger worrying, and an average person wouldn't worry about something like that in the same situation. And it then creates the need for reassurance. By engaging in reassurance, you further lower your tolerance of uncertainty, creating the need for more reassurance and causing anxiety if you don't do it, exactly like addiction. Besides reassurance seeking, avoiding triggers also lowers this tolerance. And even trying to rationalize it in your head is bad for it. The point is doing anything to ease your worrying about it is bad. It might make you feel better in the moment, but it makes the problem worse long term, like when an alcoholic has a drink.

The solution is to stop with all of this and instead just sit with the fear. The point is to become comfortable with uncertainty. And you achieve that by staying in uncertainty on purpose. So you need to identify your anxiety related behavior and then make effort not to engage in it. Some is usually very obvious. Some less so. You should go about everything as if this problem wasn't a factor.

And also use the radical acceptance technique. Meaning whenever you're worried how something bad might happen or something bad might be true, accept how it might indeed happen or indeed be true. And add how it's fine that way. Even if you don't believe that. In this kind of "whatever" tone in your head. And always end thinking about it on that note. Besides that just sit with it."

my physical symptoms are butterflies (not the good kind), and I just feel jittery like I have to take a walk to calm my nerves. What helps me are simple things stopping at my favorite tea place after work or if I’m at work, I buy a tea and drink it outside even for just 10 min💙I don’t like the feeling either the thought spiraling😔 the support chat may be safe space to share feelings when anxious since it’s anonymous and your feelings are shared in a safe space🙏🏽🥺💙

Yeah the jittery feeling isn't a good feeling. That's nice that you treat yourself to a tea.

I'm gonna treat myself too. 😀

Thanks for your comment❣️

My biggest one was nausea

Italianmomma profile image
Italianmomma in reply toDolphin14

That's not a good feeling.Maybe try to eat or drink something to settle your stomach.

Dolphin14 profile image

I don't have it anymore:)

Not sure eating would have helped to be honest.

I'm glad you don't have it anymore.👍😀Sometimes when your nauseous you don't want to eat.

How did you get rid of it?

Dolphin14 profile image
Dolphin14 in reply toItalianmomma

Therapy.... getting to the root of my issues. I have ptsd as well

Italianmomma profile image
Italianmomma in reply toDolphin14

I'm glad the therapy helped you.Sorry to hear you have ptsd.

I also have another online support group that I belong too. Alot of people that I have talked with have it. Sexual abuse, loss of a parent at a very early age, family issues, physical abuse. It's very sad. But im there for them. They talk with me in private. So it's more confidential between me and them. I have a couple with identity issues too. All different kinds of people.

I'm glad that they trust me and open up to me. I feel like sometimes I'm their therapist.🥹

It's not easy hearing about their past.

But I do listen and give them the best advice I know. They need help.

It's got to be difficult giving advice on things that you haven't experienced?

This site is peer to peer support so we only speak to what we know about a diagnosis based on experience.

It's important for people to be heard. I'm glad they have you to listen

Italianmomma profile image
Italianmomma in reply toDolphin14

I do more listening. And am there for them to talk to about there problems. Can't say I've been through any of them.

It's hard for them even to talk about.

I guess they feel comfortable talking to me. I have built a good relationship with each one of them. We have become friends. 🫶

They know they can trust me and I'm always there for them when they need me. That's what friends do.

You have to be really careful about not providing therapy to others. It's nice that you listen to them, but it can become a very fine line very quickly. I've been on the receiving end of this kind of situation causing harm (so much so, that I've been traumatized by it).Are all those people in one group? That's a vast array of dealings for one group. It's surprising to hear that they are all in one group, tbh. Things like what you list are incredibly serious and traumatic issues, and the people going through them need care at the hands of someone who has professional experience dealing with that issue.

I certainly hope that this support group has a professional grief counsellor, family issues counsellor, etc.

Italianmomma in reply toAlpakka123

They all have therapists to talk with.I'm here for them to talk to and listen.

Yes they all are in one group.

At times it can be a bit overwhelming.

But they need someone to talk to and trust. I guess that's me.

I have become very good friends with each one of them. I know alot about them.

But I keep it confidential.

I have lived with anxiety disorder for more than 10 years now with panic attacks on and off. Symptoms are very personal based, but for me it was always head tightness, dizziness, feeling off balance, palpitations and blood pressure spikes. Having went through a movie like journey with anxiety (thankfully a lot better now after having all necessary healing, epiphanies and working on myself for 10 years) I would say the number one priority is to understand the root cause of it. This is different for everyone, which is the way it supposed to be, but as a hint I highly recommend taking a look at your early childhood for undetected traumas. Once you find the root it's much easier to target your current challenges.

Your absolutely right. Once you know the root of the problem that's half the battle. Then you just need to work on that.

Your comment makes alot of sense. And it is very helpful.

I'm very happy your feeling better.

Hugs. xoxo
