anybody else feels like it?

so I have GAD for 7 8 years and rn I am having a pretty bad flare up. I have been taking therapy, its the 3rd session. Therapist asked me to do a task in which we have to give evidence against anxiety provoking thoughts.

one of the thoughts were “I wont be able to work again” and I have so much evidence against it but there is a constant spiral that “what if all that evidence was in past and now I wont be able to, and even if I were, I will register only the negative aspects (instances where I am unable to work) and make that a evidence further against it.” This type of thinking keeps going on. It almost feels like my brain is against me and I can make anything positive into a negative spiral. Like if i give it a positive counterback, it turns that against me. Its exhausting and never ending.

Im v v afraid of these thought patterns. Its the thing im most afraid about anxiety.

The only thing hopeful for me is that I am able to identify this thought pattern even if I am unable to deal with it.

Chickienuggie, the good thing about these thoughts is that you do know how to identify

it, where it comes from. Dealing with it, is a learning process that takes time in picking

that thought apart. Not fearing it. Accepting it as not harmful and proceeding with what

you need to do. The "what if's" of anxiety have stopped many of us from continuing

forward and have kept us stuck in this never ending cycle of fear.

Listening to Affirmations will help build your stamina and confidence. It will reinforce

the power within you. You CAN and you WILL be able to work again. Staying stuck only

exhausts you mentally and physically. Be tough, be strong. This is your life. Don't allow

Anxiety to take it away from you. You can do this my friend. Believe in that :) xx

I sure can relate to your feelings of anxiety and what if I can't work. I have been in therapy and she told me to use the grounding technique. 5 Things to look around the room for and say the names. 4 things to Hear, 3 things to feel, 2 things to smell and if you can't take 2 deep breaths. 1 thing to taste and if you are unable say one good thing to yourself. She also has me say affirmations. I am also trying hypnotherapy helps some, but the cycle continues with anxiety and fear and ruminating thoughts. It is exhausting! I feel as if I have been hijacked from the person, I use to be with this going on. Keep trying different things and hopefully you will find something that works. That is what I am hoping for also.
