I'm wondering if anyone knows if a MRI scan is better at giving an image or a CT scan with a contrasting dye, I've already had a" basic" CT scan and now need a more in depth procedure, I knew I already had a couple of internal cysts, however the report shows something else that's been unable to identify, obviously I've the report with me, and it states suspicious new right sided nodule, one of the previous lesions has increased quite "significantly" obviously its getting bigger, these lesions are all towards the pelvic area and I don't know if it's normal to live with these new growths causing me any harm, and if how big they will continue to grow, I'm just curious if we can live with any cysts without them doing me any harm, thanks for any input !!!

As far as I'm aware a CT scan is the more usual one and if anything shows up as in your case then an MRI one is done. So on that basis I would say MRI.
I had an MRI scan done last year which not only showed up my spinal stenosis but pin pointed exactly what the damage was and where. Very impressive.
I hope its something and nothing and that you are fine. I think the worry with cysts is that they can grow and impact your organs. I don't know if they can become cancerous or anything though.

Yes, it was picked up on a ordinary scan, I presume these " growths " can put pressure on nerves as I've had back ache for months now, it was possibly divine intervention that's now showing these cysts or whatever they are, as I had a terrible pain, ended up in hospital and it was kidney stones that were causing me problems, so I know I needed a different scan, but I can't get access to my own hospital at the moment, but I'll be speaking to the doctor tomorrow, and hopefully arrange the correct scan, thanks for your reply 👍
Yes an MI scan will show anything like that. I was allowed a look at my scan and it was so detailed it was amazing. I actually had my scan in around 3 weeks so I hope it is as quick in your area.
Cheers, I'm slightly disappointed that these " things " weren't monitored more carefully as they were originally found in 2016 and its only by sheer chance that they were picked up at the same hospital all those years ago, I'm not in my local area to get a follow-up immediately, but I had a missed call from my doctor today, obviously they've got the report; and now want to possibly do a follow-up, which I won't delay, thank you!!!
Cysts can be cancerous, or they can become cancer. For that reason you usually first need imaging to see what they actually are. Then you usually need imaging follow ups every year to monitor them. I would do whatever type of imaging your doctor recommends. I have no medical background, however, I have two cysts (one thyroid and one kidney) and this is the procedure that is followed. I have annual sonograms to check on them.
Yes I was unsure if they can change into something more concerning, I'm disappointed that when they were first discovered that they have been followed up on a yearly basis; first noticed back in June 2016!!!
I just got diagnosed with a 9.1 mm nodule on my lung and need to follow up with the pulmonologist regarding what's happening with that area of my body. I was hospitalized this past Wednesday through Friday and given 25 tests and total most of them were blood tests but I had a CT scan with contrast, then from that test they thought that I had a blood clot so I then had to get an ultrasound of my legs and my lungs too. I originally went into the hospital Due to the fact that I was extremely nauseous, sweating profusely and a little dizzy too all at the same time. What I was told is that I have what's called vasovagal syndrome. That is the sensation or response that you get when you're getting a needle and you feel light-headed like you're going to pass out and you get nauseated by that that's exactly how I felt and looked as well. I will need to follow up and already made plans to see my primary care physician on Friday in the afternoon and maybe I can schedule one of the appointments for either the pulmonologist or cardiologist that morning to get that out of the way. My husband researched nodules in the lungs and there was a doctor from UCLA stating that a lot of people get what's called a bronchoscopy for no apparent reason it's an unnecessary surgery for the most part and he also alluded to the fact that most nodules 95% of them are benign that are circular shaped and if they are spiky in nature that's the cancerous ones. If it would be in fact cancer it would most likely stay in stage 1 for many years. Hearing this doctor speak I began to calm down a bit and not be so afraid of the 9.1 mm nodule in my lung. My friend Kathy's mother has asthma like I do and she has nodules in her lungs too which are nothing she said to me yesterday which calm me down a bit too. CB have you gone to the hospital to follow up with other tests that could differentiate your diagnosis? Or do you have a definite diagnosis yet or they don't know they have to do more testing I guess right? Wishing you peace and well-being.
Please do try to calm down Cookie as you said most of these nodules are benign. What is
sometimes recommended is a follow up CT scan in 3 months to see if there are any
changes in size. Many times they will get smaller in time. It's been know that some
people who had Covid developed nodules which proved to reduce in size with time.

Thank you so much for your positive words to me! It helps for sure. I was one of the lucky ones that never got covid. A friend of mine said her mom who has asthma has nodules on her lungs that are not cancerous too. I have asthma too so maybe that's the reason. I was just shocking or should I say scary for me to hear that you know what I mean. Thank you for your well wishes and positivity Agora1.

Perhaps I should tell you i was admitted to the hospital in a different area from where I live, approximately 270 miles away from my home, so yes they advised a different scan, this was due to me failing poorly, I will arrange the appointment soon with my own doctor, as the hospital couldn't fit me in on my tight schedule, thanks for your reply 👍

Definately CT with contrast for cysts, nodules and tumours.
