I was diagnosed in 1984 as having schizophrenia and most recently the diagnosis has changed to schizoaffective disorder. I take a mood stabiliser and an anti-psychotic to manage symptoms. I have recently to be honest yesterday was offered counselling with the NHS. I may have to wait a long time and to get it and also will need to be assessed as needing it but I am really pleased. Obviously treatment for mental health is changing and what is being offered as well. Thanks for reading this post.

I'm glad for you that things are moving forward for you.
Thanks it has taken nearly 40 years but probably treatment is so much better now
I think it takes great courage and strength to seek out help, and we should always validate that about our not giving up....it does take a while to find the right fit of a therapist, they have to meet your needs, remember...they work for you. And if you take meds, make sure you know what they are, how they will affect you , and what to expect. You will always be your own best advocate, and that means be open and honest about what your feeling, most therapist have heard it all....so just put it out there.
