I initially went to my gp suffering from insomnia but ended up being diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression and this was the reason for my insomnia. I was prescribed sertraline and mirtazapine and referred to the 2gether (MHICT), and I have been receiving treatment and support for the last few months, I had 6 wkly CBT phone sessions which has helped me to manage my anxiety and panic attacks, I see a MHICT nurse once a month who is helping me to manage my depression, I’ve recently been referred to a support centre that helps people with MH issues to begin socialising and interacting with people again and you have a case worker who is there to help u manage with your anxiety and they do lots of activities which are designed to help people suffering from depression, I am so great full for all the help and support I have received, before I started taking antidepressants and having therapy I was in a really bad place and couldn’t see the point in carrying on. So I’m really glad I got the help I needed when I did as I don’t know if I’d still be here if I hadn’t, so my advice to anyone who is suffering with anxiety and depression except all the help and support that you are offered as its made my life so much better and I can actually see a light at the end of a very dark tunnel. 👍🏻😊

I’m so glad that you found my post inspiring , I just wanted people to know that however bad things might seem with the right help and support things can improve and u should never give up hope, 4 months ago I would never have believed that I would feel as good as I do now, I’m not saying everything is perfect I still have some issues with anxiety and panic attacks and some days I really struggle with my depression, but I can honestly say things are nowhere near as bad as they were a few months ago, I ve actually started to enjoy doing things again and don’t spend days in bed because I just can’t face seeing anyone and have no interest in anything, it feels amazing to actually want to go out and socialise with people again instead of spending every day at home all alone. Hope my posts encourage more people to ask for help if they need it so they can start to get their life back 😊

I won’t lie it hasn’t been easy and there were plenty of times I felt like giving up as it was much easier to hide from the outside world and just stay isolated and alone, at first I wasn’t that bothered that I felt unable to go to a pub or restaurant or attend any kind of social gathering without suffering panic attacks, but eventually I got to the point where I struggled to leave the house and go anywhere, I’d be in a supermarket and I’d have to leave before getting everything I needed, then I stopped visiting friends and family and if anyone wanted to come and see me id make up some excuse so they didn’t come, that was when I knew I had to stop dismissing how bad things were , so I went back to my gp and told him everything I was going through, had a complete meltdown trying to explain how I felt and I was crying so much I could hardly speak but after a few more appointments he had referred me to all the right people and prescribed me antidepressants and anti anxiety meds, it’s taken a few months but I’m finally feeling really positive. Still have the odd day when I feel I can’t face going out or seeing anyone, but difference between how I was feeling a few months ago to how I feel now is amazing, if more people got the help and support from the right people who are best suited to help with a patients issues they would get fantastic results, unfortunately not everyone has a wonderful gp like I have 😊
You should be commended for taking the appropriate steps to get back on track. I am very impressed with the mental heath support you are getting and am wondering if you live in the U.S. Or overseas. If this type of support was available to everyone suffering with anxiety and depression, what a wonderful world it would be!

I am not surprised you are in the U.K. The United States is very far behind in mental health support.
I’m so sorry to hear that you don’t receive the same help and support for mental health issues as we do, we have many different organisations and facilities and services available for anyone who needs any type of help , we don’t just receive medical treatments but we have the option of being referred to other facilities that are designed to help you get back to living a normal life again, we have local support centres were you can go and they have things like art classes, educational programs and many other activities on offer so there’s always plenty of things to do, we are encouraged to go to help you to start socialising again and to help you to feel more confident about yourself, it’s such a shame you don’t have the same help and support facilities that we have 😢
