Last night I slept about an hour

I cannot sleep tonight

Racing thoughts and stress

I took melatonin and valerian root and extra Zyprexa

maybe warm golden milk?

Any other ideas?

Ive been having sleep troubles too, it can be so frustrating. Getting out of bed and reading is good, try and stay off phones. If im hungry a few bites of yogurt

There's a form of yoga called yoga nidra that you do in bed. It means *between awake and asleep", and it's very soothing for the body & the mind. There's lots of vids on YouTube, I like Ally Boothroyd's voice as I find it soothing. I can't make it through one of her hour-long videos without falling asleep. I hope that you find some rest....

I wish I had an easy answer to this one. Sometimes listening to a music playlist helps me fall asleep.

Can't think of anything. Last week I had bad insomnia for several days. Finally my body gave in and I was able to sleep. I wish I could be more helpful.

That’s good. I ended up getting sleep but I think it was from taking the extra med that makes ya tired but I don’t want to get in habit of taking an extra dose of Zyprexa

I understand. I think that's why I take melatonin instead of any prescription medication to sleep. I would prefer to try riding out the insomnia until I drop from exhaustion.

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply toMrspjsmom

Exactly… but I’ve felt desperate for sleep so I took it on two nights this week. I tried melotonin and valerian earlier in evening then had to resort to the prescription med

Do what you need to. Sleep is an important part of self care.

I take magnesium glycinate in powder form, mix with warm water. Tastes awful but it helps me some.

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply toScarlett28

me too I I take a blend of magnesiums once in morn once in night

Magnesium -- soaking in Epsom salts. Even just soaking your feet helps.

Lavender sachet.

Computer on "night light" in the evening.

Stop eating near bedtime. (I have trouble with this one.)

Do peaceful things as you wind down for the evening.

If your thoughts disturb you in bed, try listening to something to distract them. I have an audiobook, but I sleep alone.

I'm sorry you're still having trouble sleeping. I didn't sleep at all last night, and my nerves are jangling.

Natural progesterone cream may help also lithium oratate ( which is not the same as the pharmaceutical lithium carbonate )

you can buy lithium oratate on ebay in uk it clears glutamine from synapses giving instant relief for some

I know the pain, I tried everything... really... Only Diazepam that I used to get before flying because of my anxiety sometimes would work for the sleeping but this medicine is heavy on your liver so I stopped but now I do sometimes meditation just before sleeping time, sometimes works, afterwards I do my special youtube playlist; Forest nature sounds, rain and light thunder, Oceans waves, etc... This has been a great discovery for me it really helps my insomnia... good luck ;-)

Oh Starr I do sympathise, I have always had problems with insomnia and will find it even more difficult when the clocks change soon..a few drops of pure lavender oil on my pillow every few days helps and also listening to the radio, they sure have some strange programmes on in the early hours! Bananas and turkey sandwiches are meant to help ( separately, not together I mean). Is golden milk where turmeric is added, it’s meant to be good as well? xx

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply toprimrose81

yes turmeric is one spice in golden milk I do think it helps

Why do bananas help? I thought the turkey making one sleepy was a myth … hmmm interesting

Thank you!!!

I have made roast turkey breast for dinner when my depression or anxiety is bad, and it does help. I never noticed it making me sleepy, but definitely calmer.

Potatoes help too.Roast turkey and parsley potatoes are comfort food for me too.

Pixie says "wake up". 😼

Uhm... Bath time?

thanks so much!

You can buy powdered golden milk, but it's easy enough to make yourself. Let your body tell you whether or not to use a particular spice, and how much.

It's important to include black pepper with turmeric. It helps it work better.

My favorite recipe:

1 cup milk (any dairy or non-dairy full-fat milk is fine)

ground turmeric (organic preferred) -- stay away from Bangladesh turmeric, lead contamination

ground black pepper

ground ginger

sprinkle of cinnamon (or a small piece of a cinnamon stick)

optional: a pinch of ground cardamom

optional: sweetener of choice: honey, jaggery, sugar, or maple syrup

add a pinch of nutmeg – if you have diabetes, heart disease, or joint pain

You can make this with just turmeric and pepper if you like. Bring to a simmer and leave to infuse a couple minutes.

Not what you're looking for?
