Yes, every night. I try not to take anything and most of the time I need to take melatonin and or allergy medications to relieve allergies and get some sleep. I have just gotten used to this, I sleep at the edge of sleep. I don't sleep like a solid, rem sleep. I sleep like that, I am tired and frustrated with trying to sleep like a baby, those days are not happening and I am just sleeping the best I can. Try sleeping aids and enjoy what sleep you can get:)

hisipiki in reply to

Yes, I used to take meds to aid sleeps. Now I don't really sleep too, just like you I never really have a solid deep sleep at all.

in reply tohisipiki

Sleep when your body wants sleep, rest, easier said than done especially if you have children and or work schedule. I used to only sleep 5 hours a night for many years and that was still interrupted sleep. These days I sleep 8 hours however it's not rem sleep, it's moving, rolling around all over the bed. It is what it is:)

I quit my job one year ago. With work schedule, it actually affected me so much emptionally. Like a cycle, no sleep ---> angry boss --->stress----> physical stress...

Now, without any fixed schedule, it's a mess, either sleep too much or cannot sleep at all. Also affect my eating orders: eat too much or eat nothing at all. Not until these sleeping habits affect my health until i alarm about tuts importance.

I do wish u could have a good sleeping pattern going forward. 😉

in reply tohisipiki

No worries, I am just accepting what sleep I get and not going to spend my time worrying about getting more sleep and better sleep. I am turning a new leaf. I have this illness and it is what it is and I will just live with it and work with it, instead of pounding a square peg into a circle peg, hope that makes sense.

in reply to

That also includes everything in my life, work, relationship, relationships, etc etc. I have been trying over and over to get people to understand, accept me and they just don't get it, understand, empathize. I am just me and I will be quirky, silly, fun, odd and hopefully interesting and above all loving and caring :)

Here are a few websites which may help with anxiety and depression which explain how certain foods work to encourage better mental health.

healthyliving.azcentral.com...

Supplements for depression

-

mentalhealthdaily.com/2014/....

Vitamin d is found in plants, dairy, fish and eggs.

Omega 3 fatty acids from cod liver oil or from fatty fish may help depression. eg sardines, mackerel, and cod.

Boyer Healthy Eating recommends foods which create tryptophan - a precursor to sleep inducing chemicals such as serotonin and melatonin found in eggs, poultry, fish and cheese. Eating these particular foods in a sandwich with carbs, can stimulate these naturally occurring chemicals to help sleep as a bedtime snack.

I have horrible insomnia, I won’t take anything though

Yes, I have had insomnia on and off for as long as I can remember, I wrote a post earlier about how I had taken magnesium and watched mindfulness hypnosis videos on YouTube, the past 2 nights, I would never have believed this would work if I hadn't tried it. I don't know what causes your insomnia, mine is anxious thoughts and anxiety attacks, I've not been able to get into a bed without being a minute from sleep for years, because if I'm not exhausted and I lay my head on the pillow, am will be up all night. If it's anxious thoughts and physical discomfort from anxiety that is causing your insomnia, try the magnesium and mindfulness hypnosis videos on YouTube, you have nothing to lose and possibly a miracle to gain, I'm starting to feel much better already, just by catching my sleep

hisipiki in reply to

Mine was anxious thoughts, panic attacks, and depressive memories/ images. I will try the hypnosis videos u suggested and see if it works, thanks for the suggestions. For magnesium, maybe I need to consult psychiatrist first.

Are you on meds ?

hisipiki profile image
hisipiki in reply to

I am... The psychairtrsit reduces my dosage over the year.... But I don't feel better

in reply tohisipiki

I can't understand why meds are being given that aren't helping, I keep reading this time and time again. I'm starting to realise why nobody wants to help me, because they expect me to stay on meds that aren't helping or make me worse. What meds are you on ?

hisipiki profile image
hisipiki in reply to

I also wondered the same. Paroxetine, Sanzol, seroxat, diazepam, Zolman, pralol... reduced some from time to time so had to look into the ones reduced

in reply tohisipiki

I'm currently having murders getting a GP to understand I only want short term minimal side effect meds, as all this long can't stop taking meds and for me, so they are treating me like I'm a drug addict. I went to the GP with high anxiety and bad sleep after a court case, k was given quetiapine and told not to stop them then referred to the cmht, after 3 months on the quetiapine, I could bare them no more and once I stopped them I had to question why I wasn't just given a short prescription of anti anxiety or sleeping tablets. They want us on these drugs for a reason and it's not for out best interests. Take a look at this

theguardian.com/society/201...

in reply to

Some of these drugs have side effects which make your quality of life poor.

They may also affect your body and health. You can look up the side effects of the drug you were prescribed, and a graph will emerge from the drug profile analysis

of the seriousness of these side effects, and how they affect different parts of the body. This can be found on Yellow card gov uk website. You do not have to log in personal details to find information about the drug. If you want to report a side effect then you can fill in the online form. Drugs.com, gives information for US and Uk drugs their side effects, and interaction with certain foods. Very good information. You can download a drug leaflet for lists of side effects and advice if you have conflicting diseases or medication so you cannot take the drug.

Hope you find any other ancillary information. There are other natural remedies which mimic the balance of certain hormones such as serotonin, but may be the type of drug prescribed was not the right one for you.

in reply tohisipiki

Peter Gøtzsche is the kind of doctor I need, one that will respect my concerns about long term psychiatric meds, if my condition only affects me sometimes, why should I be forced to take daily pills when it's been proven that a short supply of sleeping tablets are more effective ? Too many people are on strong medications which either aren't helping or are making them worse, this can't be right

in reply tohisipiki

Oh and a word of advice, if you have health anxiety, fast forward the ones that talk about breath and rib cages etc... I had a bit of a faff about last night getting the right video..the last thing I need to be doing is picturing the inside of my body whilst trying to drift off

Magnesium and potassium, zinc and copper, are important in the diet and an help our

muscle function and blood. Coconut oil is brilliant for the brain - I eat some on an oatmeal biscuit about a teas poon a day. Magnesium and potassium can be found in

bananas. Zinc and copper are found in dark chocolate. If you have some every day

this can help your immune system.

in reply to

Thanks for this info, I'm going to get bananas and bourneville choc today

Sounds as if you need cognitive behavioural treatment or post traumatic stress disorder therapy with flash backs. Did you have nightmares as well? Have you had a broken relationship or some event which has knocked you sideways?

hisipiki profile image
hisipiki in reply to

Yes, nightmares. Yes, many broken relationships before and also traumatic events

in reply tohisipiki

A combination of treatments might help ie CES and other psychological methods.

It goes back to the expense but is worth trying every avenue as you may find the right person on recommendation in your area. Does the website administration hold lists of practitioners in your region?

It's only been a short 30 odd years for me now, hahahaha!!! May you get the sleep you need...I feel for you! Dump trucks of love, peace, light, joy and hugs!!!

Hello Chappy12,

I am very sorry to hear part of your story. And I would like to hug u just to give u support. I could imagine the images u r seeing while trying to go to bed. I can understand u. I know the heart beat racing and the memories/thoughts that affect u. As compared to u, I am just a coward and useless. I shouldn't be having such a horrible time getting to bed. Even my husband doesn't understand why I couldn't sleep. My family thinks that I am crazy of not thinking positively. And they even think it's my own problems and don't want to get around me. I feel super lonely of being aliented.

Dear, I do hope u could feel better and sleep better. In time, I hope these images would become less and less impactful to u. ❤️😘

Hi Hispiki - sleep deprivation can make you feel ill and very low. Sleep helps to restore your mental health. There is research on the hormone that is created from food, and from

our bio rhythms. We tend to be activated by day light and sunshine, but when we go to sleep we need the dark to help the sleep hormone to get us off to sleep. I don't like pitch black, so I keep the hall light on, with door slightly open, so it is dark enough but I can still see if I need to get up. I also find a milk drink or something to eat, like cheese an crackers and hot milk or cocoa can help sleep. I found out I had a sleep disorder about eight years ago after years of insomnia. I do think you should ask for help for sleep with a medication from the doctor. Sleep really does help your mental health. I go to bed as late as I can, have a bedtime snack with protein and carbs, and I can sleep for at least 7hours. Who ever or what ever it is bugging you they are not worth it. You are young and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking. There is so much out there here which is yours - you deserve to feel better and take as much help as you can from your medical services and may be you can get referral for cognitive behaviour therapy. Take care. Chat tomorrow.

Hope you feel better today - if you are off colour may be you are not feeling like eating.

If you can eat some fruit and some food you enjoy, it might help you blood sugar if it is too low. Drinking tea may help you - coffee with caffeine helps some. Look forward to hearing from you - would love to know about your hiking and walking. Do you get a chance to enjoy walking in your area? They have walking and hiking groups in our area - you sound fit - and am envious as I am not as fit as I should be.

Thanks for checking in. You are so sweet. Your suggestions are great.

I was holding to my blanket till 3 pm (lots of bad emotions, almost didn't get out of my bed) and then I called up my grandma and see if she wanna go for tea. So I got up to find grandma but then her new maid and my aunt were there. End up, I didn't have any food lol 🤭

I used to go hiking with my husband. Having really gone in a while now. I'm not fit, that's why I try to hit the gym whenever I have time.

Can see you help a lot of folk on this site - just thought you might like a bit of new info-

stress.org/educational/ces cranial electrotherapy can stimulate alpha - amylase levels and can help anxiety and stress.

Research is from Saint Mary's University san Antoine. You can buy a small portable machine for cranial electrotherapy through

alleviahealth.com.technology.ces and cesultra.com

There is an interesting article on the rise of cranial electrotherapy psychiatrictimes.com

There is also Alpha -stim in the uk but this can be bought from Amazon.com

Do you have any yoga classes in your area because this helps the stress levels and improves the hormone levels in the brain and spinal health. I guess there are a lot of

ways to help relax your body, and control your emotions. Exercise and fresh air is a tonic, and increases your appetite and helps you sleep.

hisipiki profile image
hisipiki in reply to

Wow! cranial electrotherapy is fairly new to me. Have u tried it? Does it really work?

in reply tohisipiki

No I haven't tried it but Tens is used successfully for pain control. This is a different type of stimulation. It's worth looking up the technology and how the machines work. The one in the uk Alpha -stim is linked to the health service and has a helpline

and you can rent to buy. It might be worth logging onto the websites which sell the portable units and see if there are any reviews. Each manufacturer may have a different technology with different power levels which may be held in the hand or

may be different probes are put round the head. Allevia Health has a website for CES as does cesultra.com

If you look up themicrocurentsite.co.uk it explains how the micro current helps the brain with depression and anxiety and indicates that a high percentage

have benefited from it.

in reply tohisipiki

Someone on this site is going to have CES with his medical doctor administering the treatment. He is in South Africa and has found nothing much has helped. Perhaps there are medical centres in your area where you can have this treatment?

Not what you're looking for?
