Insomnia comes in so many different forms. My insomnia won’t be like yours or any one else’s.

That said, medications, anxiety, panic attacks, drink caffeine late in the day, drink alcohol at night, sleeping in the daytime, a numerous amount of things effect sleep. So giving advice would be dependent on what is happening at night.

All in all though, having optimal sleep hygiene is the first line, next would be how you handle things when you wake up and what is waking you up. Are you on any medication for depression/anxiety that has sleep disturbances or insomnia as a side effect. Or do you have sleep onset insomnia where you can’t fall asleep at all?

I don't take meds and I get sleep but only in the day time but I think my anxiety throughout the night disrupted with my sleep and I can't seem to fix it

What about looking into CBT-I and I’ll give out another option if CBT-I won’t work called ACT-I.

How you handle your anxiety at night, doing all that you can to learn techniques to help you get back to sleep might help and/or see a doctor, preferably a therapist or sleep specialist.

Linking ACT for you to look at it, honestly I’d look at both. Different approaches, same concepts.

If you are wanting to sleep at night, sleeping in the daytime will need to be stopped as well, it’s hard as heck to not sleep when your up all night, I totally get this. We build up hormones in the daytime (melatonin and another thing called adenosine). We kill adenosine we have built up while a awake in order to sleep at night each time we go to sleep in the daytime. I would limit naps to nor more than 20-30 minutes, planned naps could be beneficial if you use them right.

And get tired. The more you do in the daytime the better.

I have trouble sleeping too. The only things I can suggest are no caffeine for six hours before you plan to go to bed. Diffusing lavender essential oil. Finding a lavender linen spray and using it on your pillow and bedding. Taking melatonin. I take 3mg about half an hour before bedtime. I believe that is the lowest dose you can buy. My last suggestion is to buy a table fan and turn it on while you sleep. When my anxiety gives me tornado brain with the same thoughts over and over I concentrate on the noise from the fan. Hope some of this helps.

Good advice. I purchased a white noise machine, it also plays rain, beach waves, nature sounds, all kinds of relaxing noises and it blocks out my neighbors a/c coming on at night. I can’t sleep when it’s too quiet, so this does help

I’ve got pillow spray with lavender too.

Melatonin is available via liquid so that minimal amount we need can be used, I get headaches if I do more than .3 mg although higher dose at your range can help induce sleep. It leaves the body so quickly and I instantly get woken with headache. Not sure why my body hates it. 😢

My husband has always worked third shift and the bedroom is on the west side of the house. I put up light blocking curtains and he has an air conditioner that's separate from our central air. Getting full sun he sometimes needs the air conditioner on a warmer winter day. He has a box fan and leaves it on high. I managed to raise two children and for a time babysat four others without disturbing his sleep. I have a sound machine but can't listen to any water sounds while I sleep. Rain and beach waves wake me up all night to go pee. That's why I rely on my fan. Always have a brand new spare just in case. I stock up at the end of summer. I do enjoy the sound machine during the day when I need a few minutes to compose myself. I know several people who use CBD oil instead of melatonin. I have stuck with what works. I often wake up with a headache too. In my case it's usually because I am dehydrated so I keep water on my bedside table. Any time I wake up I drink some water. It's also the first thing I do in the morning.

I have a fan too, being hot is a huge sleep interrupter for me. My machine has blue, pink and white noise. Who knew so many different sounds can relax us.

Finding what works makes us our own science experiment, I’m still an experiment in progress. 😂😂😂😂

For me, no caffeine and 5 mg of Melatonin are helpful. Try to stay awake during the day so you can sleep at night. I hope you find a remedy that works for you.
