Not sure where I stand ever.

I constantly have an issue with needing to know everything and needing to understand it. It has led to several issues over the years when it comes to relationships, work, and just day to day living. Not understanding leads to major anxiety and then anger. I just want to go through a single day without needing to understand why "Sam" in accounting has to do things a certain way.

hi go-blue, Needing to know the “why” of everything has always been a problem for me to. It’s actually not always a bad thing, being curious, wanting to learn and understand more. I get anxiety as well if I can’t figure out (or learn) why everything and everyone are the way they are. My therapist told me it’s a sign of intelligence. Idk about that. But, you have to be careful, wanting to understand all the whys of life has led me to rumination, going down a rabbit hole where there’s a fine line between actually getting the answers I’m looking for vs endless searching that leads no where. Idk, I think it’s just the way some ppls minds work. Try to pick and choose your whys for things that really matter to you. I still say it’s not necessarily a bad thing. You’re self aware and curious. Just my food for thought.

Thank you for your insight. I guess i just wish i knew how to turn it off or to notice when i go down a rabbit hole before it goes on too long. I know it came come off as controlling and that is where i really want to work on it. I don't ever mean to sound bossy or controlling I just have a thing about needing to know.

Yes, wouldn’t an On/Off switch be nice! Here’s an article I read that helped me with alternative ways of thinking about all the whys.

I am very much the same way. It’s a blessing & a curse for sure.

Hello Go-blue it's possible that you have some degree of OCD and have difficulty with uncertainty which could be causing your anxiety issues. I've had issues with anxiety on and off and have become aware of also having some OCD so it's possible that it's something you haven't recognized before. There is a lot of good info about it on youtube, I have found the youtube videos of Paige Pradko helpful and also Matthew Codde at restoredminds.com for info about healing and dealing with OCD.
