my doc is switching me from Lexapro to Prozac.

ok, thank you! I am starting it tonight!
Good Luck Kelkel on starting your Prozac. It's a long time good drug
that has helped many on this forum. I was never on it so I can't give
you any input. Whatever medication we are put on, it depends in how
the person adapts to it. We can't compare one to another as we each
react differently. Take the medication with an open mind, a positive approach.
Don't expect miracles overnight...give it time to reach it's full efficacy. *4-6 weeks..
This can be the start in opening the door for you to step through and live your life again.
My best to you. xx
I've been taking Prozac for over 20 years, and don't think I'd be here without it! Great medication, minimal side effects for me! I hope it works as well for you!
I started Prozac shortly after it came out late 1980's. It worked great for me for about 10 years until it stopped working. I had no side effects from it.
Hi! I was on Prozac for about a year, it had minimal effects. My “big shot”, psychiatrists, kept trying ssri’s. They never worked. I switched docs to a young, engaged Physicians Assistant. He said WTF, the previous doc was beating a dead horse for two scary year. He put me on Lamictal, a miracle, after a week I felt a lot better, almost two year later, I’m in full remission from TRD, and I’m tapering off the lamictal very slowly, or at least reducing my dose. If lexapro is not working, why would Prozac? Ask your doc to explain the science of why that makes sense. Also after three years of hell, I realized during the process, if your doc won’t let you email/text without an appointment, get a new one. When I found a therapist who would text with me, and the PA, it made all the difference. I don’t abuse it, but sometimes just a 1 min exchange can get you through the next few hours. Good luck! Don’t give up, but don’t repeat things that aren’t working.
I have been on prolactin for about 15 years, no side effects and has really helped me, but over the last couple of months I've had some bad days so I talked to my mental health worker and she has changed me on to venlafaxine and have been 200% better on this plus I had No side effects coming of prozac. Good luck hope it works for you.
I’ve been taking Prozac for about a year now. After increasing my dose a couple of times, I can say it’s working for me. No side effects and finally feeling like life isn’t so bad after all. Good luck to you and hope it works out for you.
Sorry Kel, haven't got any experience with prozac...probably shouldn't respond. I am responding coz I switched from lexapro to zoloft (sertraline) in the last year or so coz the anxiety and depression returned. As expected, I had fear from not knowing what to expect but I realized that starting SSRI'S generally is a process of significant adjustment to a new drug, but I knew I really had no choice for I had to do something. After trying 3 or 4 non-SSRI meds, which only exacerbated the anxiety, I made the switch to zoloft (SSRI). To be honest with you, the first few months were filled with anxiety and increased dosages, and then I slowly realized that the anxiety was much less with the final increased dosage. I'm ok at present, and my dr started me on 25 mg amitriptyline at bedtime for sleep and also to enhance suppression of anxiety.I'm on continuous oxygen therapy for lung disease so when anxiety occurs, I get short of breath even on oxygen and sometimes feelings of wanting to end it all...yet I feel great today, and actually for awhile now.
I'm sharing this " war story" mainly to let you know what I discovered as my own experience: don't listen to the mind for it's like a piece of computer software that categorizes anxiety as life threatening, which is bullshit. People don't die from anxiety itself. The mind's primary function is to survive and anxiety panics the mind. We are not the mind..it's just a possession we have...not who we are; also, when fear arises don't resist it for it's what is, so what!..remember this, WHAT WE RESIST PERSISTS! Accept it as best as possible...takes some courage...you up for stopping your suffering? I bet you got some moxy!
So, to conclude, I just had to hang in there as best as possible until positive change appeared.
IN THESE TYPES OF SITUATIONS, THE MIND IS NOT OUR FRIEND!
When fear and anxiety occur, sit quietly in the silence and concentrate on your breath..watch each inhale and exhale and after a bit, suffering will lessen, thus feeling better.
With warm regards,
Harleyman
