so good news guys I had my consultation everything went great n now I got a therapist!! Our first session is tomorrow so once again I’m asking for any advice ?? Is there anything you wished you mentioned your first session or anything?? I know I gotta be honest and open for it to work n I’m like 96.8% sure I got that part down. I think imma start past to present cause I noticed during our consultation it felt like I was constantly trying to explain myself n I hate that feeling so maybe it’s easier to build up. Or maybe that’s just a me issue I suppose I don’t NEED to explain myself but I guess I just have the habit of doing that… I should definitely mention this tomorrow lmao. Anyways advice always welcome!!!

that’s awesome! Happy for you!

Sometimes when you start talking in therapy things start to flow on their own

I’m happy for you. Having someone who is not biased is nice. Sometimes, for me, jotting down a specific triggering event helps me to remember to process during the appointment . As well as points the therapist mentions for me to review later.

I always wished I had explained what I wanted out of therapy. I’m inpatient and want immediate results, so sometimes talking about my past trauma 24/7 doesn’t help me fix the problems I have in the moment or help me learn coping mechanisms to deal with my anxiety and depression every day

Wonderful. I would ask what is their approach to therapy . That will give you some direction. If I am in crisis I always discuss that right off the bat. You can address the past later. Ask for something to do that will help you survive between sessions. Be sure to pause and let the therapist say something, even if it is a long uncomfortable pause. Speak up if something makes you feel awkward. I hope it goes really well.
