Tardive Dyskinesia

Has anyone experienced Tardive Dyskinesia from Seroquel? I have been chewing not grinding my teeth for about four months now it is really starting to drive me crazy! I read online that this can happen after being on atypical antipsychotics for awhile. If I stop the Seroquel it may or may not go away, I could have this for the rest of my life. I'm actually afraid to discontinue the Seroquel as I've read the nightmare stories about trying to get off this crap. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was on Abilfy for about two months, it was great. My depression lifted, fears lessened. Then you bottom jaw started to jiggle uncontrollably. Told doctor and he said he could give me medicine to stop movement. No additional drugs for me and expense was prohibitive. So back to old standards that help very little, but I can eat and live Somewhat normally. It was so nice to feel good for that little while,

Sorry I can’t be of more help. I hope you can find a better way.

Thank you for sending me a message. I'm worried about wearing my teeth down to nubs! My jaw is clenched so tight that it hurts all the time. I have read about a medicine that may help but like you I don't think I want to take another med. that has a ton of side effects. I keep hoping it will just go away but I really doubt that it will.

Don't let the stuff you read on the internet scare you. Tell your doctor about your symptoms, and that you wonder if it's wise to get off. I was scared to try to quit my antidepressant, because there were so many horror stories. My doctor tapered my dose, while amping up another medication and I had no problem. Drugs affect different people very differently. I have observed that people frequently get the response they expect, so it's important to be confident in your Doctor and not worry about everyone else.

I hope this helps. I know that if you address the EPS in a reasonable time frame that it will resolve spontaneously. I have seen it many times. Just try not to let it go longer than necessary. And of course, expect it to resolve. I am always amazed at how much this simple advice has helped me. I know it will help you too...if you choose to believe!!

Let me know how it goes :-)

Thank You so much Billsfriend, I feel so much better after reading your words of wisdom.

I did get off Klonopin with my doctor's help without a problem therefore as you said I'm going to try and look at this whole situation with a more positive attitude.

Thank You, you really picked me up when I needed it.

I am Soo happy that you were able to find value in my words.

Being in the medical field I've always been familiar with the placebo effect, but recent research has shown it to be much more prevalent ( up to 70+ percent ! The old figure was about 17 %. Anyway I decided to use it to my advantage in quitting tobacco, drugs, and abusive use of alcohol.

I just find information that makes sense to me. Believe I can do it, And I do!! It's really strange but I know the power of our thoughts and beliefs. My sister cured stage 4 breast cancer. I'm convinced because she believed she could.

I will try switching to another medication. My daughter had tardive dyskinesia at Long months of age from a medication called Reglan. The tardive dyskinesia lasted for a year and a half after stopping taking the Reglan.

She again developed facial tics and psychosis from taking topiramate catchup so she is prone to developing this side effect and you may too. I would get a second opinion

You've had it for four months and the md wants you to continue it? I would question that for sure.

If you came off klonopin successfully I'm sure you will do Ok coming off this.

Mayb you should talk to your dentist about a mouth guard to protect your teeth while this is being figured out.

Thanks Dolphin I thought of the mouth guard a couple of months ago, I'll be going to the dentist soon and will be fitted for one.
