Antipsychotics

My docs want me to take antipsychotics and/or mood stabilizers but I am so scared of the side effects. I've also been living in a country where I can't seem to find the support I need. I have never felt so helpless, so scared and feel like I'm losing my mind :(

It's three doctors now that have given me antipsychotics without fully knowing if I have bipolar. I'm young and haven't had manic episodes. Antipsychotics have been brutal for me and I'm just so tired.

First-generation antipsychotics like haloperidol and trifluoperazine, as well as second-generation drugs like olanzapine, have shown anti-cancer effects, such as inducing cell death, halting tumor growth, and boosting the efficacy of chemotherapy agents.

I had to take antipsychotics for roughly 18 months which I utterly hated.

I tried 8 different antipsychotics, 2 mood stabilizers, 5 antidepressants, and probably ten different other drugs including anti-anxiety and sleep medications.

I think that being off the antipsychotics has been a big contributor to my being able to do this. I also had to start a good exercise program, and change my diet quite a bit. I have low thyroid too, so it hasn't been fast. I'm doing the Weight Watchers program to help monitor my food intake.

After the second child postpartum they plan on weening me off the antipsychotics again as well as the mood stabilizer.)

I was put on antidepressants, antipsychotics and benzos but none of it made my anxiety truly disappear. I came across an add on Facebook for a hemp product. I was so desperate and decided to give it a try. I honestly thought it won’t make any difference in my anxiety.

My psychiatrist thinks I should not take antipsychotics and that we must wean me off as soon as is possible. She is an integrative doctor and believes that long term use of the drugs in my case is not beneficial.

is anyone else struggling with a shortage of antipsychotics medication?

There are many meds that you can't take Paxlovid with at all, and there are some antipsychotics among them. Thank goodness I'm off of those. The good news is, I'm pretty well recovered from the Covid, though fatigued from being sick.

I am wondering if anyone has ever taken a combination of antipsychotics as that was given as an option at my last medication review. On Ablify I had very bad side effects but during the day didn't have the psychotic type of thoughts (but had them at night as couldn't sleep).

Hello, For those that are bipolar and/or medicated for life on antipsychotics and antidepressants and have gained a lot of weight like me. Have any of you started on weight loss medication as well? Not sure my thoughts on it! But may consider an appointment with my doctor to chat about options.

My psychiatrists are confident that they can keep the psychosis at bay by starting antipsychotics immediately after birth. Actually we are going to start a low dose of olanzapine (2.5mg) at the 35th week of pregnancy.

I’m off of the antipsychotics now but remain on an antidepressant and a mood stabilizer as a precaution for another year or so. I have reached out to many of you on here who are farther down the line on their healing journey, some 5 years some 15 and some over 20 years.

And I have read that prophylaxis with antipsychotics is highly effective to prevent relapse post partum. I am of course still nervous but confident in my doctors that they know what they are doing. How do you all manage your anxieties regarding prevention of lifetime relapse?

I have encouraged Lynn to try to be patient while we continue to explore her medication options (augmentation with clomipramine or one of the atypical antipsychotics are also possibilities) but she understandably has difficulty with that prospect.
