It's a battle at the supermarket, everyday it's a constant " scanning " price's around the shop, my personal ways of shopping have definitely changed, I only buy products that have lasted the test of " time " I stick with certain products, but things have changed, I refuse to buy hienz soup, even the ketchup has reached its price tag, Cadbury chocolate was a favourite of mine, but it tastes " greasy" and expensive for what it is , I will stick with fairly washing up liquid, and lurpak butter. I'm actually in shock that some food items have security tags on, it's been caused by covid
" apparently " but we all know its a cost of greed by the supermarket's, the security tags are mainly to discourage shop lifters, the cost of living has pushed many food items beyond an average wage, we are getting spanked by the utility companies, and the cost of electricity has influenced the cost of food, the recent budget will affect food prices even more, but the supermarket needs to keep the shareholders happy.
I'm feeling there's a push on most people on society, its been a battle for those on benefits, and now its crept into the next groups, the
Worker's are now being dragged into this fiscal mess, the growth in the UK will be extremely low, it's the Worker's who generate money and the trickle down economics aren't working, it's been a graduation of people being sucked into lower living standards, and paying more, and yes getting less and less every year, there's going to an end plan, but how far it will continue I haven't got a clue, perhaps the food banks and charities are expected to pick up the slack, we are losing vital communication due to everything being done online, and nobody is held accountable for these " actions " society is in a slow meltdown and whilst politicians are quaffing champagne and eat lobster, they are invisible towards the real world, there's no crumble left on the table anymore ๐

It's a sly trick, people now are being conned, and I'm onto all those big companies who rip us off, going shopping is like trying to pick who you vote for, I'm never voting again, it's a vote to keep the "establishment " extremely rich, I'm fed up with the greed at the top, dispatches the other night showed those at the top are constantly picking the " Ripe " fruit from the top of the tree!
Hello Cb...i agree completely with what you say, the cost of everything is crippling, and things don't increase with a penny its in the several shillings. The supermarkets are making a killing and even in the reduced section the savings are barely worth having and i hate the attitude of many places, their answer is if you want it you're going to pay.
I was shocked to see Horlicks well over ยฃ4, its outrageous.
In my local Tesco they now have a Rowes Cornish bakery, and their pasties are truly vile, its a hard pastry and barely any filling, however they reduced their Cheese, bacon and cranberry turnover to ยฃ1.65, and i ended up buying one, but when i got home non of it was edible, it was more suitable for filling pot holes in the road and i was livid, if i didn't live so far out of town i would have taken it back, it was disgusting.๐ซ
Yes the products are pretty awful, especially when you're paying top whack, I've tried different pie's from tesco and the so called steak content is barely noticeable and I threw it out for the seagulls!!!I tried " Ski" yogurts the other day, the first time in about 45 years; they were watery and had no fruit content it's all down to this so called healthy eating fad, the biggest problem is that kids aren't doing enough exercise and spending to much time on electronic devices, and cheaper foods are now used as " bulk " items pizza, chips, and food full of processed ingredients the countries health is on a slippery slope, and dare I say the word F#T or obesity is a ticking time bomb , my mum and dad worked extremely hard, we had home made meals, and I suppose the cheapest meal was the vista meal; with those crispy fries, but we ate healthily and loads of out door exercise, football, even cricket and picked for cross country running from the school, and now using injections to make people lose weight, boy , it's become a massive problem!
Yes ironic side effect I have diabetes 2 but the cost of food has meant, just less food, very deep looking at what is available, don't try those Maryland choc biscuits, they taste burnt, my sister tasted one and just threw the whole packet out๐คฎ I use foxes choc biscuits just to pep up my 'desserts'๐, Tescos medical 'substitutes' bad for your health, usually short of prescribed ingredients, keep away from those! The Tesco "fast foods" take a look at the ingredients, [dangerous๐คฌ] might taste 'agreeable' but long term effects๐ค So I've lost weight despite using their club cards!๐
Yes its a " war" out there, and not only are you fighting the prices you've got to look at what you're eating, boy I think were the guinea pigs being tested on eating these products ๐
I was in Tesco Express the other day and noticed how a normal sized packet of giant chocolate buttons is now priced at ยฃ1.95. 4 years ago it was ยฃ1. Its just an example of how fast prices keep rising.
I do much more of my shopping now at Lidl's and Farm Foods and even the Pound shop. Even Iceland which used to be reasonable assumes everyone who shops there has a big family with their silly buy 3 for a fiver but one costs ยฃ2.30. I don't buy much there now. As for the Co-Op it went well out of my price range last year.
Another touch of irony, electric prices to much, eating more salads vegetables, fruit, cold food, can't afford to heat food, a hot meal about twice a week! I was written a letter about three weeks ago that my electric for next month would be ยฃ94, since then Two repeat letters telling me prices will be going up, my average monthly electric bill was ยฃ138, [two years ago ยฃ64๐], one of the main reasons for me downsizing/moving house[plus my bad health] so๐yours Power NI๐๐
Totally agree with you, in fact I donโt see how anyone could disagree. I was ruminating last night and after the people are sick and tired of four years of liebour theyโll be voting Reform and weโll have Nigel Farage and his BFF Donald Trump ruling the world.๐
The lunatics are already running the asylum and after what David Lammy said about Trump he wonโt be doing us any favours in the near future.๐คทโโ๏ธ๐
'Liebour'? After all the lies the torLIES told and increased 10 fold with BoZo the biggest liar of the lot.
Labour have been in office just 4 months and they are taking steps to sorting out the tory complete disasters over 14 long austerity years. Unless people approve of record immigration, record NHS waiting lists, levels of debt not seen since WW2?
People must also agree with the highest gap between the have and have nots for many years after 14 years of tory disasters.
I presume some also disagree with unions? And the ordinary workers getting a bigger share of the wealth they help create instead of an increasing share going to the rich elites.
I presume you are aware of the tories adding together the state pension and any other income to screw more tax out of us pensioners. Along with their frozen tax thresholds especially the lower ones which have dragged me and many pensioners back into the income tax net again and costing me ยฃ445 this year.
Labour are.
1. Paying the junior doctors more to try and keep them rather than driving them abroad. The same ones who for many years only got a 1% rise if any at all.
2. Having proper plans in place to try and stop the boats, but it will take longer than 4 months. They are also trying to increase funding to border services and hopefully the backlog will fall. Unlike the tories Starmer has said they will be building migrants centres rather than using hotels.
3. Co-operating with the rest of Europe for the benefit of the country instead of just antagonising them because they know you catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar,
4. Have plans in place to reduce NHS waiting lists.
5. Labour want to build more council housing stock to replaced that which was sold off starting with Thatcher.
I suggest people stop blindly believing everything they are told and look at all sides before making up their minds.
I know discussion about politics are not usually allowed here and I know I am on my soapbox, but I am just sick of seeing so many blaming Labour for the tory messes.
Apologises to those who object to this. Just stating some facts and my views.
Please note I haven't got abusive towards anyone so if you do it then you are starting it not me.
Yes the P word is involved but the very poverty that the UK has been driven into by the previous lot is the truth & the truth is the only thing everyone should want to hear. I've not mentioned situation in the States as I simply don't know what it is as they pretty much produce everything they need themselves.
๐ โCalm ya farmโ Youโre making a lot of asssumptions and presumptions about me which simply arenโt true..๐ I donโt know exactly at what age people actually โWake up and smell the coffeeโ about all politicians of any party but it seems you havenโt quite reached it yet, thereโs still time.๐ Have a good evening.๐
Haha, we have to laugh about our politics or else weโd all be crying. Well obviously not all and someone has to appear to be running the country.๐๐คทโโ๏ธ
Hi Chris, it's disgusting the price of everything these days , i have 3 cats , my eldest being 15 yrs of age , it's a struggle to remain buying them the good cat food , they refuse to eat the cheap stuff lol , mind you I can't blame them, if its anything like the cheaper products our supermarkets sell i would do the same thing, yet prices just don't seem to be going down do they ? It sure is a worry of what's to come now we have Labour seemingly making things worse ๐
Four cats ๐ lol , if I had the room I'm have my own cattery but I'd have to win the lottery first ๐ .. thanks for the info Chris, I've got amazon prime so I'll have a look ,see what their prices are like ๐๐ป
It wasn't to bad in tesco the other week they were doing buy 3 get 4 items and that includes the purina big bags of dry cat food2kg bags and obviously the boxes of whiskas can't remember if it's 48 or 36 sachets in a box, but it certainly helps ๐
Yes i have to buy certain food Chris as they are so fussy and don't all like eating the same flavours ๐.. i usually shop online if doing a big shop as I can't carry anything heavy due to my chronic pain ,we have a tesco near to where I've moved so I'll take a stroll at weekend , see what there is . Many thanks Chris ๐
Lol ,yes as you well know we have foxes with a couple of fox cubs along with all the stray ๐ ๐คญ.. i throw some dry cat food out for the foxes at night time.. not yet done the chicken wings lol . But good for you Chris ๐๐ป
I find them a joy to watch and I follow debs the crazy fox lady on various social media she has loads coming to her house and a squirrel that's mad as a box of frogs, it's so god dam cute, she actually had a fox that could be stroked, but sadly it had lung worm and had to be taken away by the fox angel sanctuary and unfortunately it has to be put to sleep,we were absolutely devastated ๐ข
Oh they are wonderful to watch Chris, we have a daily squirrel here that my cats find interesting to look at out the window. What a shame about that happening Chris.. very sad ๐
Debs is a bit of a hero, she's a wonderful lady , and it gives people a uplifting moment watching her videos or streaming, I dread to think how much she spends in chicken every week, and all the cubs that were born during summer are now at her front door, and whilst they were young and not on the scene, can't remember which fox managed to take over 2kg of chicken in just one hour!!!! It was sheer chaos, but funny to watch, I reckon she's got around 7 or 8 foxes that appear daily!!!
Such a wonderful lady Chris caring and feeding the foxes and the cubs , I can imagine how amazing it is watching the streaming Chris, Lol ,2kg !! Must have been hungry haha, so very rewarding though
I think it was taking the chicken back to the cubs, it was funny when they all started to appear they knew there was food out but were awfully shy of approaching until they watched the parents having a good feed, they soon learned the ropes ๐
Yes more thank likely , aww that's good , bit like the strays cats around here, once they saw me feeding ibe they all appeared from behind the bushes ๐
Here's a picture from my mums bedroom last year, the fox gave birth to 5 cubs and they were a joy to watch, I went out and bought fresh chicken legs so mum could keep the milk supply going
Yes they had a great life growing up, my mum was concerned about her cat getting attacked, but foxes tend to avoid cats as they need to look after the cubs and can't afford to get injured
Yes , deb's has two cats and they sit outside and do absolutely nothing, even when the squirrel go's into her house the cats just look at the squirrel and do absolutely nothing, and like I said foxes are very shy, but like anything food motivated, they have a hard life and a bit of kindness and food is worth more than money, it's a free entertainment for us ๐
Yeah my cats love watching the foxes and squirrel but only from indoors at the moment, I shall let them out once they have settled a bit more .Totally agree with you on thst one ,kindness is worth more than money absolutely! In turn you get to watch them
Hopefully you're not near a main road, cats have no street sense, one ran out in front of my car over 40 years ago, the outcome wasn't good, I was devastated ๐ข
Now this really upset me and probably will not do my late father any sympathy, I was a child and there was starlings nesting in a hole in the tree , he cut a piece of wood and nailed it over the hole, yes as a child probably around 10 years of age it absolutely destroyed me, and stuff like that impregnated a horrible thought!!!
Oh no !! How awful Chris that you had to witness that happening at 10yrs of age , well any age come to think of it , definitely something you would rather not remember ๐
Yep, absolutely no reason, it was cruel beyond anything I could witness at that age, there was no logical explanation, and things like that you don't forget!!!
Really was Chris ,no reasoning as to why he did that awful act .. just not something that you want to remember but sadly it's always there ,such a sad story ๐
hang about the local shopping centre long enough you`ll be offered steak deodorant alcohol the lot at very much discounted prices but make sure the cameras aren`t watching.
our local thieves are hiring mobility scooters going into Asda and other shops clearing out shelves coming out then swapping over and they do it all over again.
I was offered all sorts recently just after I came out the vape shop with my bags of shopping I observed them for ages couldn`t believe what I was watching with the swap over on the mobility scooter then some healthy fit looking guy jumped in and off he went for his turn then one of them was asking if I wanted to buy steaks bacon the lot and they had loads shame it was after I`d went down the legal shopping route.
now that President Trump is back in office. I think we will see some relief. If he starts drilling again, it should help stimulate our economy much like after World War II, which turned us into the superpower. We are today incidentally, the US sells the cleanest oil in the entire world. Unfortunately, once grocery prices go up itโs hard to get them to come back down. . I do think you will see a different country now that President Trump is back! What bothers me mainly is that the CCP has been infiltrating our higher learning institutions for many years itโs like Joseph Stalin said Mack in World War II, Iโll bring the United States down without firing a shot. From within. The Chinese communist party is already working on Stalinโs because we have children that think the holocaust was a mess. I see LGBTQ flags flying in support of Palestine. What these kids donโt know is were they over there now they would be thrown from the highest building in Palestine to their death.. I think I was blessed to have my son heโs 25 but has a good head on his shoulders. Heโs neither Democrat or Republican, his self or libertarian, but he did vote for Trump. I think it was like the Leicester of too evil for him, but he knew what it would take to get the country back on track and I respect him for that. I know food prices are ridiculous. Letโs just hope they come down some and can bring us all some relief because Iโm on a fixed income being on disability and my wife is too.
Yes totally agree with prices soaring. The other day I went in to just get some fruits and vegetables and walked away with minimal items. I was shocked as my husband normally gets things from the supermarket. I told him that I would rather get the seasonal produce from our market stall. Thankfully we found a lovely market stall were you can actually taste the difference in quality produce. And I love the fact they are one pound for a bowl. For example sometimes I can get 3 aubergine ๐ for a pound. Supermarket sell one for 95p. I even bought 2 bunches of parsley for a pound. Whereas less than one bunch costs over a pound. The tomatoes ๐ on the stall actually smells like tomatoes and tastes like them. Growing up I was always going to the market stalls with my parents to make ends meet. Have a great day all ๐๐
I know what you mean. I feel blessed to find the one I have. It is only one stall. But I can't go anywhere else. I have had a fair share of bad luck. I remember buying some avocados thinking they were a bargain. I went home and every single one was bad inside. It wasn't just the money aspect but also carrying it on the bus and walking home with it. It was so heavy. ๐ซ another time I remember the stall holder said I will give u some from the back. I was on my lunchbreak and I love persimmon and they gave me rotten ones. Luckily I checked them at work and I threw them away and avoided those stalls. How do they sleep at night? I have no idea! ๐ฃ๐จ
I remember every Tuesday, I used to live near the centre of town, but you could ALWAYS tell it was Tuesday, fish smells, always had mackerel for tea! Those were the days๐ต๐คญ
I use to manage a grocery store. When where prices cheap. Don't buy the con. The real problem is we do not make enough money. They have been dumbing down of America since Reagan. There mission is almost complete. I have pit my house up for sale and moving to Canada.
U are 100% correct & I supermarkets & some manufacturerers are racketeering by forcing prices to rise almost every month & the vast majority of us are now forced to live in poverty.
My personal shopping has shrunk in the amount I buy yet the costs spiral & this is at the traditional shops that were seen as budget supermarkets are full of those of us trying to get value for money but it feel like a hopeless task. Even our bills have gone up & this year it's the water bills that have jumped up & we can't even move to a competitor as there isn't any but I believe that bonuses will be handed out come end of year costs.
We can only hope that something is done to stop this racketeering & prices come down .
I wish us all a far better end of the year & cheaper 2025.
I failed to mention that I have 75 lesions which have become three black holes in my brain. Iโll go for a head neck and spine MRI next week and have a Neuro appointment. Iโll take Tysabri so I have to monitor my JC levels carefully, but I am blessed. God is good all the time.
Sending U any & all positives there is in this universe for ur health journey. Is there any recovery from what's gone on or can U still have some form of a life long term ?
Apologies if I'm coming across rude but what U posted to me was a bit left field & that's why I ask , Ur within ur rights not to tell me as it's ur life & right.
I have a different take as I live in America and capitalism works. I think now that President Trump is going back in the office. He will free up more disposable income for American citizens. Grocery stores donโt maliciously raise prices as I worked my way through college in one and understand pricing. They are offered to buy items at the cost the manufacturer offers them they have no choice, but to raise their prices if they want to make a profit and letโs face it without making a profit, they couldnโt pay their employees. The problem is once manufactures raise the price that they sell to the grocery stores itโs hard to get them back down.only competition will do that and I got a feeling thatโs about to happen. I wish I could be on a more healthy diet but one thing I do is Iโm on a rigorous sleep schedule. I wake up at 5 AM every morning feeling like Iโve been in the boxing ring with Mike Tyson. Iโll take my meds then about an hour later I get up and Iโll start moving. I donโt know how long Iโll to be vertical and moving so I donโt want to miss any opportunity. Goodness, I even skydive a month ago. Sometimes when Iโm going through the parking lot of a grocery store, I canโt wait to get to a shopping cart because my gate is off I take ampyra which helps me pick my legs up and to be honest with you. You really donโt know itโs helping until you go without it. Iโll try to see the glass of water half full. I wish you well and all that you do and hope the best for you.
which helps me pick my legs up and to be honest with you. You really donโt know itโs helping until you go without it. Iโll try to see the glass of water half full. I wish you well and all that you do and hope the best for you.
