Antidepressant Questions

So I’ve been on antidepressants for 10 years; I started when I was a senior in high school. And I’ve only been on celexa and lexapro but for the last 10 years I’ve had issues of getting hot super easily and sweating a lot more than I used to since I started the antidepressants. And I’ve never really been able to go off them because I would be good for a while and then I’d get super down but last month I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. So, they put me on a medication for that and that’s really helped me calm down and keep a good middle where I’m not too happy but not extremely depressed. And my therapist says that it seems likely that I have high functioning autism or Asperger’s syndrome which could explain for the lack of concentration, and feeling down when I get overwhelmed; so I’m waiting to get seen to get diagnosed on whether or not I have it. Plus I don’t want to spend Dan the rest of my life on antidepressants if I don’t have to now that I know about my bipolar disorder. Has anyone ever had symptoms like these before?

If you are changing medications possible. However you need to give your medications at least five week to change over .

I have been on medications new on and off for over fifty years, also on Citalopram for about twenty years continuous I am now fifty nine and my AD Meds are the only thing they do not want me to change or stop taking. To be honest I would prefer to stay on them until my end of life. So you are not alone

But the thing is no matter what antidepressant or the doseage I’ve been on I always get hot easily and start sweating a lot. And I never did it before I was put on the antidepressants. So if I can get off of them I would like to because I was put on 100 mg of lamatrogine for bipolar disorder and it’s made me feel so much more stable and calmer than I did on the AD. Because even on the AD I still would have episodes of depression and now that I’m on the meds for bipolar I have not had that issue at all.

I have never had sweats caused by Anti Depressants i am at a loss regards your explanations. You could try NHS Information on the Internet, look in A/Z drugs and enter the medication name. Also try HealthUnlocked sometimes when you enter medication you will get some information that may help

You could also enter the drug name directly on the web, that will give your drugs side effects and explain any other concerns you may have

I was on celexa for 9 years. And now the lexapro since November.

If that is the case you need to allow a further two or three weeks to allow this medication to start working and any side affects to begin to clear. Try not taking showers etc late in the evening . I gather you are still in your mid twenties ?

Well I was given the 15 mg of lexapro on November 12th but I was taking the 10 mg of lexapro before that starting August 7th. So, I’ve had enough time to get used to the lexapro and even when I was only taking the 10 mg I was still having problems with getting hot and sweating easily. So, my mom said I should talk to the doctor when I go back on the 24th.

Hello Christine

It is still a bit early to say this medication is not working, consider allowing say over the Christmas period, or New Year. Contact your GP, the first week of 2020.

I am going through withdrawal of a Medication, Opiate at this time and I do not see my GP until the end of the first week Jan 2020..

I truly believe if you find a medication that works, try and stay on it. However, I’m no doctor lol. I was on lexapro for 10 years too but it was almost running its’ course. So maybe consult with your doctor about changing it. I get very bad sweats and I don’t know why. I’m on Zoloft and Abilify now and they’re working so well that I just put up with the sweats. But maybe it’s the combination of meds. Keep consulting with your doctor on your symptoms. That’s most important!
