This week my doctors advised me I had to choose between my pain medicine for my chronic pain back & neck pain or my anxiety medicine for my anxiety and panic attacks.. my medical records show I have fought DEPRESSION since I was a teenager & attempted suicide several times. I see a psychiatrist & I’m on Prozac from her, about a year ago she said she could no longer prescribe Xanax to me so she said to go to my primary dr, which I did I’ve been on Xanax for yrs thank God and then two months ago he switched me to Kolodipin cz of extreme panic attacks !! ER Visits, Hugh pulse rate, tingling limbs etc. Then my pain management doctor for my back and neck- MRIs speak for themselves, for over 5 yrs he has prescribed Norco & then this past June, a heavy dresser fell on my back & neck ... & Norco no longer touched the pain, MRIs were done, dr said, similar to smushing a Big Mac down & the special sauce & bits of lettuce squeezing out the sides- explains my nerve endings now. Steroid shots no longer works nor nerve blocks. He said surgery would not help but hurt. So since June I been on Percocet up until last month, I went back to Norco (my request), I battle pain everyday as well. Well 2?weeks ago my pain management doctor said he could no longer prescribe pain meds to me because of being on kolodipin or even Xanax. I had to choose. I went to my primary and he prescribed Norco’s along with kolodipin .. and I proved I no longer was receiving medication from another doctor...then yesterday my primary doctor’s office manager called me and said my primary could no longer prescribe me pain medication if I was on Klonopin ..that I would have to choose between pain medicine or anxiety medicine !
—— now somebody tell me what does someone do when you have a history of both ??????
I have read articles where people are being bedridden and committing suicide- I don’t want to walk that line again !! •••. please tell me somebody what do I do ??Because no Dr. it’s giving me one if I’m getting the other. 🙏I understand people are abusing & are overdosing in excessive amounts but my records show that I am a very honest person. Why again do the good ....have to suffer for the bad ????

I am facing similar issues, MD refuse to prescribe medication out of fears. I live in NY state where there is a lot of crack down on doctors prescribe control substances to patient.
I know the pain . I am in the loop you are in regarding your back and pain . I need to have several surgeries on spine and spinal canal which would include breaking my pelvis and fusing them back together . I have had several leg surgeries and the pain will be there forever , Norco , tramadol , bunch of others , do not touch the pain for me , they mask everything BUT the pain , I am on spinal injections now , but the other series of injections failed . My advice is find out why you cant have the 2 , is it because of the doctors restrictions because they are limited on opioids ?they suspect possible abuse ? The 2 medicines cause more damage then good when used in conjunction ? You have the right to know the reason as to why . If you need them both to treat different things and they work for you , most doctors will roll with it until it fails due to building up a tolerance.
I know the pain is a struggle and I know the mental pain is a struggle , You just need to fight off the struggle the best you can until you find the resolve in the medicine . You are strong and you know it , just have to do it now , and I believe you can do it !
I think the only answer is to keep taking your xanax, and for pain,to replace the opioids,because they don't work that well with chronic pain,and take paracetamol 4x a day along with an anti-inflammatory meditation. I stay in the U.K.,so don't have to suffer the rule changes you are having in the U.S. all the support in the world. John.
I am so sorry you are going through this, and I hope by now it’s resolved. My doctors prescribed Norco for my Osteoarthritis, and Remeron for my Anxiety. It’s in a different class than Xanax and Klonopin. I have Kaiser, so all doctors for mental and physical health are under one roof and can consult with one another. There are other options out there that can work with your chronic pain medication—my doctors found one! Sending well wishes!
This is a new finding linking opiates and benzodiazepines with decreased breathing and death , this will not change . Ask the what they can give you for anxiety other than benzodiazepines - there are a few options

I used to use Xanax for sleep as that was the only thing that would turn off my mind - I had to give that up to stay on opiate for chronic pain
