Police PTSD DEPRESSION ANXIETY ... help

Hello, new here. I have all of the above since 1992. Medications stopped working and were making me sick. I got off all antidepressants 9 days ago, it took a long time to taper. I can't get out of bed, not happy, struggle with isolation PTSD.

I'm trying to find a treatment, in patient that will teach me to un learn bad habits...thinking. if I must I'll try medication again, but I'd really like to see if I can do ok without it.

I have no addictions and I have California workers comp insurance. I want a treatment to teach me healthy ways no just shove medication at me. I haven't worked, I cant find a doctor that will take my workers comp.

Where to go? I dont know. I dont want to hear traumatic stories, I dont want medication first.

Is there anywhere? I look, I'm feeling hopeless, lack of places for women cops, no addictions and that will take my insurance. I'm desperate to get better. I keep looking and asking but cant find help.

If anyone can help, please tell me. I'm weak and tired, i cant give up, but I'm not living. I want real intensive treatment.

Thank you. It's my first day and first post.

If you’re struggling, you deserve to make self-care a priority. Whether that means lying in bed all day, eating comfort food, putting off homework, crying, sleeping, rescheduling plans, finding an escape through a good book, watching your favorite tv show, or doing nothing at all – give yourself permission to put your healing first. Quiet the voice telling you to do more and be more, and today, whatever you do, let it be enough. Feel your feelings, breathe, and be gentle with yourself. Acknowledge that you’re doing the best you can to cope and survive. And trust that during this time of struggle, it’s enough. Am here and I really do care❤️🙏🏾💪🏽🙌🏾

Hi, Perhaps you need to think about what you want to tackle first. You have a list of things that need attention. Always remember that when you feel unwell that you will also feel overwhemed. What is the first little thing that you could do to make yourself feel better? Dont think about yesterday or tomorrow, be in the moment and do that little thing. When you have completed the task, feel good and congratulate yourself. Dont do anything else, relax do something nice for yourself. Go for a walk, make a hot drink or watch something funny on tv. You have done something good, you are moving forward. When you are ready do something else, make a list of little things, they dont have to be done right away but they are challenges for you and opportunities for you to give yourself a treat. Lovely to hear from you. All my very best wishes are being sent to you.

Thank you. I've always made a list, I stopped when I just couldn't seem to focus on anything.

I will give it a go again.

Hi, there should be a number on all healthcare cards to call and ask for help locating a doctors list in the area you need. Should, take care..

Hello 4Cece, I'm in the UK and have seen 30 therapists with issues I felt were PTSD - none of them recognised PTSD...except the last therapist. I contacted Maggie Phillips in California via Skype...within 5 minutes she told me "I'm going to tell you something nobody else has told you". She did. Maggie is one of the top 5 traumatologists in the world - I spent a few sessions with her but had to move on due to finances. She was reasonable - it's just I was facing bankruptcy. What Maggie showed me completely revolutionised the way I do hypnotherapy. Maggie bases here work around Watkin's Ego-State Therapy & its relative Schwarz's Internal Family Systems but whether you call it "guided meditation" or "hypnotherapy" or merely closing your eyes & "going inside" (as talk therapies like to refer to it so as not to scare you away) - this is a place you can do the work - when in safe hands. Watkins was curing PTSD during World War 2 - it's just nobody wanted to pay attention because it didn't fit with mainstream therapy models. By the way Bessel Van der Kolk writes about Internal Family Systems in his best-selling book on PTSD. Reply to me if you want more info.

I had "animal assisted therapy" psychodynamic with a Chihuahua and i made more progress in one day than in a lifetime. The dog belonged to my therapist but she wanted to give me a prescription for a service dog. She said i qualified. There is a PTSD program for vets called k9s for warriors. I'd say it's pretty proven that dogs and nature are pretty good for us humans suffering from the effects of trauma.

If you're allergic or don't feel up to owning a pet you can just hang out at pet adoptions or a dog park or something.

Please also research EMDR. If it's something you want to try.

Have you tried listening to positive thinking or brain entrainment on YouTube?

Can you get into seeking safety group therapy somewhere? I took it and really liked it. I think you can find it online - I think the creator is javitz, and get stuff featuring their safe coping skills.

AA (alcoholics anonymous) meets everywhere and is free. It is very confrontational for trauma patients but if you abused a substance as part of the PTSD it's another approach and again is a group setting. The instinct is to isolate, and I was I think always told not to do that. I needed to feel safe enough to stop living inside of my head.

I am Catholic and also believe strongly in living a sacramental life, including anointing of the sick. It may have been a therapist who likened trauma to soul murder. I really really wonder if there is a spirital component to PTSD. It can be like spiritual warfare, and as others have posted and I have tried to suggest at least for me the best success came with unorthodox methods. Just sitting on a couch and talking about my problems didn't get me very far.

Start your grounding work now .... name colors you see around you, count lights that are on, really touch and experience the texture and threads in fabric, etc.

I was hungry for intensive trauma therapy a few years ago and I didn't get everything but I got a lot. Also check out Michele Rosenthal. She is amazing in the field of trauma self help. One of her books may be called " the change i choose". See became a hero to me. She does have a group on health unlocked I think called heal my PTSD. Is this it?

I apologize for yet another post, but, do you know, I have found on Twitter a few cops who suffer from PTSD who are from the UK. They tweet and share their unique challenges in recovery and perspectives. I have learned a lot from them.
