I need someone to give me some hope right now ? I’ve been on antidepressants now for a few weeks and had a few good Days where I could see the sun shining at the end of the tunnel, then BANG I’ve had to random massive panic attacks and now feel completely deflated like I’m back in the dark . Is there any hope ? Will this go away ? I mean I’m a positive person and like to think that one day I’ll be normal again but the suffering in the meantime is so hard that I don’t know how much more I can take 😞

Feeling sad 😞
hi im sorry to hear what your going through.how longs a few weeks on the meds 4 to 6 and they should be kicking in.maybe you should go back to your doctor tell him how your feeling you could lower the dose or even change them.
Yes, there is hope. My doc says you need 6-7 weeks to know for sure if a med is working or not. Patience is hard to come by when your nerves are strained, but please give your med a chance to work.
Hiya Car, it's not nice feeling that way, I know, but, sometimes, it takes the Meds quite a while to ' kick' in. N I think even for People who don't have Anxiety/depression, life's still a bit of a rollercoaster. Plenty of Ups n Downs. When I feel very down,I try to distract myself. The online hypnosis of Jason Stephenson and Michael Seally are soothing. Or doing some Arts n Crafts, takes your mind off things. I hope that your feeling better soon. 😊✌️🌻
I will have to have a look at the online meditations . I’ve always found it hard to get into meditation though ? Apparently it’s something that is hard to master did you find this the case ? And thanks for the suggestions
It can take a bit of persiverance. But, as both of these guys say its normal for your mind to wander and doesn't matter. I find it my concentration slips, I just bring it back to listening to the voice. Do try, it really helps, n it's not Translike, just like a deep meditation. And your very welcome. 😊✌️🌻
I have been meditating for decades and didn't know it! Listening to a soothing voice is one way, but what I've been doing is listening to some music I love. I started with just instrumentals, no voices. The music is tunes that have been popular, or sacred. Gregorian chants are good. The only real rule that I have is the music must be soothing, not 'happy'. My goal is quiet, not energy. Adding vocals include almost all of Susan Boyle's 'Hope' album, and especially John Denver's 'Annie's Song'. When I want energy, I listen to Al Martino's 'Ode to Joy', or John Denver's 'Glad I'm a Country Boy'. I might meditate while I'm in the tub, or lying on the carpet in the living room. The room must be dark. I have black-out draperies that really help. Humming or singing along really keeps my mind focused on the music, not the noise my mind may produce.
This was really easier to do for me, than other, more traditional methods. Hope this helps.
Hi Carcar89,
Hang in there!! Make sure you’re getting enough sun (literally!) or vitamin D + proper nutrients! And remember to breathe deep breaths when you start feeling anxious. If you’re into soothing music/sounds, check out ASMR videos or some Bach on Youtube. Sometimes that kinda helps me. It’s getting colder where I am, and my problem right now with Winter is I just want to coop up and stay inside all the time and eat chocolate. But these feelings do pass. You can do this! Hope you start to feel better real soon<3
Hey Yh me too I’m in the uk where you at ? It’s getting so cold but I prefer the winter to summer funny enough I feel sweaty weather makes me have more anxiety. And yeah I know how you feel all I do is eat choc biscuits and drink hot choc right now !! Thanks for suggestions
Hey there! I totally understand what you are going through. When I started Zoloft, it took roughly 2 months for it to make a complete difference in me. Anxiety, by nature, tends to come and go for those of us that are more prone to it. Being stressed or anxious about your anxiety gives you even more anxiety and depression, feeling like you a spiraling into a hole. We've all been there and we've all dug out. This will come to an end and when you get on the other side of it, you will be so much stronger, even if it doesn't feel like it now. Learn to accept your anxiety attacks and try and allow the racing thoughts to just pass without reacting to them - mindfulness. Download the Headspace app and see how it works for you. This, coupled with your medication, will be life-changing. Goodluck to you!
I have been taking antidepressants since 1988. I was told I would be on them for life. I have accepted this. I also have panic disorder and numerous medical problems. The best advice I can give is to allow your antidepressants a little more time to kick in. After about six weeks, if not better contact your physician to change the antidepressant.
One of the things that has helped me most is exercise. Even a short walk each day and build up from there is helpful.
Hoping you feel better soon!!
I don’t mind being on them forever if they help but I just want to live a relatively normal life just simple things like being able to be on my own and going shopping by myself without it feeling like a massive task 😞 I just miss being me sometimes I don’t recognise myself . So sorry to hear you’ve experienced such a tough time but have you had times where you’ve been happy ? Is it worth just holding in there ? Does it get better ? Thankyou for your tips
Yes, it does get better. They have very good medications on the market and if you have a good doctor, you should find one that allows you to be happy again. This is a dark time for you now, but it will get better. Hang in there and keep posting on how you are doing. You are not alone. There are a lot of people in the world that are battling depression. It is not your fault. It is a chemical inbalance in the brain, that thankfully is controllable.
Don't get me wrong... I have bad days but they are much less than they were!
