help with college?

i had a bad time at school mentally so i decided to change environment and went to a local college. its not what i expected. its not easy to get help for all types like work, social, money issues etc, work experience and activities. i have depression and possible other issues like anxiety which can stop me from doing certain things like for work experience, its like big space with info and 2 desk for 2 ppl next to together so its hard for me to go in alone as well as actually emailing to see if i can speak to one of them alone without feeling negative feelings :/ its been a few weeks yet at college and i feel like its been mostly negative. 2 week ago i decided to email (as student support dont have privacy so not easy to talk) them asking to speak to somone soon about help for my work and an appointment was made for a week later but she was sick for that week which is last week. so i got her email and emailed herself but she never replied so i assumed its cos she was sick and this led to me having an breakdown in toilet on last friday. earlier that day, i emailed to speak to someone cos i felt i was on verge of breakdown. about 20-30 mins after breakdown was over, was told by teacher to go down to support but i found it as negative experience. like she couldnt find a space for us to talk privately so we talked outside canteen and it was bright (i dislike sun). i actually thought maybe she was okay but i felt she wasnt trying hard enough. later on, i saw her going to support when i was going out of class and i saw her saying hi to a few students and i felt she was all fakey sweet and nice and caring like counsellors i saw in school.. i do need to talk to somone about worries for college. things are getting out of control. any advice?

I went to college a million years ago, and it can be a big change, but you can look at your long term goals and what type of career you want. Good luck to you- I can't tell you what to do but give it a chance.

Unfortunately this is not uncommon for community colleges to be lacking in support services. My school of 30,000 students did not even have a campus nurse. My advice is to seek a therapist outside of school since the counselors there are not working out.

No problem! Not to dump on community college because there can be many advantages to them. The cost savings alone makes it a great option. Being close to family and friends is a big plus too. You just have to take the good with the bad and find other ways to fill the gaps.

Dear loopyunicorn666,

i am sorry that you are facing challenges . It is great that you have sought for support from professionals and from this community. i myself was lost and in need of support, and few of the people here were really supportive. i got useful replies to my posts. i am also unloading my worries in a diary can be a relief and it gives clarity.

I learnt that Identifying each of the worries i have and later sharing them separately with someone or here to be more useful . i also find counsellors more effective when i give them a single issue at a time. I am not sure if my strategies apply to your situation. If not, please maintain positive that things will eventually be sorted out.

Great suggestions here! Plus groups like NAMI and Recovery Learning ( USA) can be helpful as well. The best to you as you pursue your studies.

NAMI ( USA) is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Who knows - they may have a gorup in your area.

I really struggled through college with depression. I ended up going to counselling privately which really helped. Maybe this is something you could try and cahms as well but their waitlist is long. Finding ways to release your emotion is good. Maybe painting or something else creative. Getting through college was hard but I’m glad I stuck to it so I could go and do what I wanted to do. Apprenticeships are good as well because you learn on the job whilst getting paid. I hope this helps and that things work out for you! :)

It is normal on ur age. Do not make ur problems bigger than they are. Do not forget, people can effect everything by their mind. So also your behavior effects normal situations from normal to disturb u.

Try to smile when u speak and take a whiteboard pen on your hand which u use for writing.

Regards

Go see a real psychologist and psychiatrist. School counselors are just not equipped to provide mental health support. Keep on trying.

Talking to someone might help you release your worries and might help ease up your anxiety. Also, going to therapy can help you gain new insights about life itself. College is stressful, I know (I'm in grad school). If you are interested, message me and I can give you a number to call someone :) Praying for you!
