Acceptance

I have only been a part of this group for a couple of days and up until now I have had a great experience. But today I read an argumentative conversation about beliefs. I just don't understand why people have to call another out if they don't like their beliefs. Why not scroll on, knowing you disagree, but not hurting that person's feelings? We are all here for support and being supportive to others. It just made me sad and quite frankly it reminded me of social media sites where people attack others and get really nasty with each other. How can that help any of us...

Acceptance is one of my favorite words. It happens at different levels. Accepting others may involve accepting the good with the bad. When I am being judgmental I tend to be not very accepting. I now opt to reject certain things, and let them go. I think that it is important to learn from things that I don’t like, so I need the negative side of people.

Yes, we definitely have to accept the good with the bad, with others like you said and just in our daily lives. Good days, bad days. Pros and cons. Being judgemental seems to be extremely common and very unaccepting. It does take some will power to reject those things and let it go, kudos to you. I really try also to let it go. And I suppose you do learn from all those negatives.

The old adage if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all comes to mind. I think social media has amplified people’s intolerance. People on social media only friend or like things that they agree with. It can lead people into a false sense of reality where their opinions are always correct and reaffirmed by like minded people. When they come across an opposing view it makes them uncomfortable for some reason to the point where they feel you must conform to their warped view of reality. I don’t use social media.

I term the tendency “Jerry Springer Society”. A condition where everyone sticks their noses where they don’t belong.

I think people vent on social media, would they be gutsy enough face to face, rise above it, the only thing that matters is who you are xxx

Please see the below rules. The full list can be found on the site. Many of us feel distressed by and harassed by members claiming 'Faith is a huge part of all our lives' or by telling us we have to believe or we will all go to hell'. Many members have preached about religion here giving us passages from the bible, gushed endlessly about it and bible bashed generally. For those of us who are of other denominations or non believers this can be harassment and cause alarm or distress.

If members would restrict themselves by just stating their beliefs fine but unfortunately it often degenerates into argument which I presume is the reason for the last rule.

I hope the issue is clearer now.

Now can we all put this behind us now and concentrate on what this site is for ie to help and support each other. x

site rules are in place exactly for this reason....no posts about politics or religion....how many times does this have to be posted...this has nothing to do with tolerance or justice or freedom.... you have all the freedom you want to express your personal beliefs or politics in PM..... simple.... we all get along very well here until someone stirs the pot, breaks the rules for their own agenda..and causes drama...geeezzzzz.....let it go.
