I’ve long suffered from depression. I usually start to feel better when I exercise, meditate, get outside, listen to music and practice positive self-talk. But these things are not working this time. I feel terrible, exhausted and defeated in my efforts. Looking for support and new ideas.
About 2 years ago I experienced significant trauma which was related to another trauma which happened about 8 years ago.
In the last two years I’ve changed jobs a few times. As of June I’m back at the workplaceI left 2 years ago. The person who was involved in my trauma there is not there anymore.
I’m so sorry. That’s a lot to juggle. I’ve tended to have delayed response to trauma before so don’t be hard on yourself. It’s all a lot to process at times. I’m glad you can make those mental connections. That’s a great start to break things down a bit to find the perspective you need to clear the fog a bit.
I don’t take anything for depression. I would rather not if I can feel better with non-pharmacological interventions. That said, at this point I’m considering it. I’m also really hesitant to take meds with weight gain as a side effect.
I completely understand about not wanting to take meds... I'm the same way which is why I just joined this site, as another self-help mechanism. At the same time it's important to be able to monitor ourselves in an honest way and if we are struggling to function day-to-day then perhaps medication should be considered.
I suffered from depression and anxiety and meds were not taken care of it one day someone recommended acupuncture to me I thought I would give it a try I have nothing to lose. After five sessions I was totally back to myself I tell anyone who suffering to try it because if it works on them you get your life back
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve only done acupuncture 1x in my life. I didn’t get the desired effect at the time of inducing labor (I was pregnant, completely uncomfortable, a week past my due date and completely desperate) but I did feel better which was amazing! I think it would be worth a try for depression.
In your experience do you have to keep it going regularly or can your just use as needed once symptoms decrease?
