Hi all. today was the day that I had my doctors appointment and I decided to address my concerns about my depression. At first, I didn't want to completely open up to the doctor due to the fear of being label as a "unfit mom" but, after reading the responses to my previously post I found the courage to speak up. Not only that the doctor was extremely helpful but, she stated that she wants to help anyway she could including getting me connect to a social worker to seek support groups as well the social worker connect me to counseling services (will start in September) . The doctor suggested that how I am feeling could be a sign of postpartum depression based on having (me) depression prior to pregnancy and the symptoms that I was describing to her. I received the prescription of Wellbutrin ( which I was on prior to pregnancy) to take for the time being in which the downfall about it is that I can no longer breastfeed in which I feel upset about that....

Hi Sheila, I'm so glad you did open up to your doctor. Postpartum depression does need to be addressed. I know you are disappointed in not being able to breastfeed your child but I'm sure your doctor weighed the pros and cons and felt that your mental state needed a little help at this time. It sounds like your doctor was very caring and supportive in giving you the help you need. This will all be a plus factor for you as well as your baby.

Take it one step at a time and you will do fine. We're also here to support you as well. I would say you did well today. Proud of you. Looking forward to your feeling better soon. xx

I’m so glad to hear that you asked for help and got it! I’m sorry about the breastfeeding. In the long run you will be able to be more engaged and there for your kids. You are brave and strong. Well done!

A healthy mom is what the baby needs to be healthy. Breastfeeding is great, but a lot of moms who don't produce enough milk raise very healthy children. My opinion. Be well.
