Hi. I'm 38 and I have bipolar and PTSD. I just lost the job I had for close to ten years because I missed one time due to my mental illness. I had a Dr. Note. So....as life goes...now my car has broken down. I'm living with my boyfriend in a very small town. The only job I can find is 20 minutes away. My boyfriend has started to resent me and be rude to me because I'm not contributing to bills. He's saying mean things. I never had kids. I have 2 dogs who are my kids. I'm stuck and scared and I don't know how to get back on my feet. I'm not suicidal. I'm just very depressed and see no way to improve my situation at this point. Any ideas or words of understanding would be appreciated.

Starting over and struggling
Hi there, that sounds a bit harsh about the job! Missing one time with a doctors note and they dismiss you ! Isn't there anything you can do about that legally or has it got past that point?
I'm sorry your boyfriend is being so mean to you; I guess it is just a strain financially. I would see if there was any way you could try and get your old job back as it sounds to me like what they have done is illegal letting you go like that, or is there some way you could make the new job? Is it twenty minutes by car, or walking or which, as twenty minutes isn't a long way to travel to a job really is it?
Hope this helps and hope you start to feel a bit better soon. x
20 minutes by car but my car broke down. I'm sure it is financial stress for my boyfriend and hopefully it stops soon. It was harsh...the firing. New owners had owned it one month. I'm going through the Missouri Commission on human rights to sue for discrimination based on disability. I guess time is what is going to heal. Thank you for your reply
Its a good sign that you are fighting for your rights...you should not be fired for being ill. One day in ten years, you didn't deserve that for sure. I'd say you should be proud of being able to work for 10yrs while ill, im close to NOT working that amount of time because of this illness. Good luck. As far as your boyfriend...well be more concerned about doing what you can and is within your power to do...don't pity yourself, if filling out job applications is all you can do, then do that...stay moving, don't sit around...try to be around people and don't isolate yourself. You are more likely to find a job or source of income if you stay around people and be honest about not having a job/having lost your job.
It may take awhile but have you applied for disability? This way you can have an income always coming in regardless of your boyfriends frustrations. Relationships come and go so look out for yourself in case the relationship goes south.
