Mirena coil/Hysteroscopy/Polypectomy

I’m 48 years old and been experiencing unusually heavy periods, severe cramping, passing clots etc for last 18+ months - much out of character. My periods have changed from every 28 days exactly to every 3 weeks and last for 7 days on average instead of the previous 3-5 days. I was referred to the gynaecologist in April following a month long heavy period in March of this year. I’ve had 2 Ultrasound scans and 2 Transvaginal scans which show abnormal thickening to the lining of part of the womb (over 2cm thick) with possible fibroids or polyps. I’m booked in for a hysteroscopy and polypectomy in a few weeks time and due to have the Mirena coil fitted at the same time (under general anaesthetic). Has anyone experienced similar problems? Did the Mirena coil help with similar symptoms? The doc thinks I’m also experiencing the peri-menopause so will try me on HRT once the coil is in place. Any advice will be much appreciated.

my wife same age as you experienced the exact same thing she was give mofilik acid for the pain tranexamic acid to reduce the bleeding and vitamin tablets the mareana coil from what i heard from other women a fibrods uk will not help with periods and likely make craps worse how ever it may reduse the 2cm thick linings as the hormone is in the right place wife deasided go back on the mini pill and its taken 3 months to start to have a affect slowly improving from then on please remember the coil has a 1 in 1000 chance of punting you in hospital and a 1 in 1000 or braking and need removing with a hysteroscopy witch they are unlikely to give you a GA for did you ask for GA or did they offer it from get go?

I had very heavy periods due to taking warfarin. I had a hysteroscopy to check for fibroids etc but all was ok. I had the Mirena coil fitted at that time and not had a period since. So all good for me,hope it works well for you

I’m on my third Mirena Coil! I have one in place because I’m on oestrogen only HRT patches and I still have a womb! It’s the safest combination as it’s negligible re breast cancer incidences.

I’ve had a hysteroscopy and polypectomy too. I do have fibroids still but I get no trouble from them now.... mind you, I’m 62 so I ought not!
