Hi, I'm new to this group. I had my first Mirena Coil fitted 14 years ago (under anaesthetic) at the age of 34. I had constant heavy bleeding and was told eblation, mirena or hysterectomy. Mirena stopped bleeding, but have continued to experience symptoms, I put down to Hashimotos Thyroiditis - anxiety, depression, mood swings, panic attacks, headaches etc. Have had coil changed every five years until two years ago, when I had it removed by an NHS Consultant in her office. I thought I would try going without it and see if my symptoms reduced. Heavy bleeding started again, so went back to Consultant and she put a new one in in her office. Horrible experience, she had no assistance and left me clamped open in huge pain whilst she went to get scissors! Anyway, after 18 months of bleeding on and off and discharge, a scan showed it was in the wrong place! Had to wait a year to get it removed and another inserted under anaesthetic. Now 5 months after that ive had terrible lower pelvic and lower back pain and bowel problems in the past week and a scan shows the coil is in the wrong place again!!
Has anyone else experienced this and found the coil has not been inserted correctly?
Assuming they will offer to remove coil at GP's and either put me on the list to have a new one inserted or offer eblation. So fed up with it all.
Im 48 and am in peri-menopause. Use Estragel as well as coil for progesterone.
