any experience or advice much appreciated-headache/migraine

I’ve have migraines for many years. Not many, hospitalised for 2 they were so bad but really not many.

Sumatriptan prescribed and advice to only take if I’m certain it’s a headache.

I also get vertigo- prochlorperazine prescribed.

To cut a long story short.

In September I had an extended vertigo attack on holiday. I put it down to long driving time on country roads. It took weeks to resolve. Took the meds for a few days and stopped to try and manage.

It came back every few days until 31-12 when GP sent me to A&E for assessment. Given exercises told not to take drugs and referred to ENT.

Nothing wrong with my ears, consultant referred me to vestibular migraine testing. It’s this Friday.

I am so anxious.

Vertigo for 5-10 days at a time, sometimes mild but which can be set off by just looking up suddenly.

Neck pain and a constant sharp scalp ache on the back/top of my head.

Does this sound like migraines to any of you?

I’ve always been told to only take my Sumatriptan when I know it’s a migraine and I have the hideous full on throbbing headache but this is new.

Any thoughts?

I hope you get an answer from your upcoming appointment.

I cope with Vestibular issues myself…these can be linked to vertigo-dizziness-poor balance-neck pain and Vestibular migraine.

Looking up-tilting head back-standing up suddenly-turning head……..can trigger dizziness and disorientation.

I get really bad migraine as well and I take six ibuprofens and I’m good for the day never been diagnosed never been to the hospital or doctors and it seems to help and on days that I don’t take ibuprofen. I sleep it away. What also helps is finding a sent you love and having a Bath or a shower and self-care is always the key. My sent eucalyptus and spearmint relax and relief by Dr teals.

I started having migraines late in life, my 60s. Not very often, but I quickly determined that soy sauce and processed meats were a trigger. Then in August 2024 woke with vertigo so bad i could not get out of bed. Fortunately, I had minor vertigo attacks in past and knew to go to a PT. My husband took me to PT appointment. What I learned is that my vertigo was not from calcium deposits in ear canals that could be treated with Eply method as it had in past. They I went on the vestibular migraine journey. My PT helped with it but needed to see ENT. A few months later I ended up seeing two ENTs within a week (long story). Both thought I had vestibular migraines. Had what they called the “dizzy test.” Is that the test you are getting? It was interesting but of course made me more dizzy. Bottom line from all that is only a neurologist can diagnose vestibular migraines. I will never see a neurologist were I live. Too few, too many patients. So unless a headache specialist moves into town that is not connected to a HMO, I do not have a diagnosis, and fortunately not taking any medications because I discovered the Heal Your Headache book. It describes migraines (all headaches have the same mechanism regardless of wether they are migraines or not) that made so much sense to me. Then I started on the Elimination Diet outlined in the book. Within two weeks my vertigo was significantly improved. Still don’t know all my triggers yet (another week until I can start testing). I suggest checking out thedizzycook.com online to learn about the diet, etc before reading the book. BTW, unlike other elimination diets I’ve been on, he recognizes you will make mistakes, travel, etc. that will interfer with being on the elimination diet. No problem, just get back on. So unlike any other elimination diets I’ve tried or read about. Please let me know how your next appointment goes
