Hi, a few months ago I had a high ALT liver reading (166) and its basically because my diet has not been good, plus too much wine. So am now facing a follow up blood test and know I haven't really been proactive - so must do something about it. Need to lose some weight, change my habits and kick the alcohol, plus more exercise and I'm 58!! Plus hubby has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer!! Any thoughts/suggestions welcome

Sorry to hear about your health issues and I hope your follow up appointment goes well.
You will find the forum very supportive. Have a good read through all the information and feel free to join in with the weigh in and Daily Diary. There are lots of challenges in the Pinned post section that you can join at any time.
Start working out - it's simple as that, once you will feel your body getting stronger and healthier you will be motivated enough to keep your new, healthy diet habits. I'm sure you will find people that will help you get your diet on point or even better you can get pro help from some dietician, but working out is key here if you want to really get into this lifestyle for good. Considering your current state, few months and you feel REBORN. Trust me, this is how much putting aside bad diet and replacing it with new, healthy one plus additional exercises can do for you. It's all hormones level and you will successfully manipulate them this way!

Welcome to the weight loss forum.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance. Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
We have daily weigh in's so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
You may notice that members have a grey box next to their name, these are achievement badges. All new members have a "newbie" badge to begin with.
Please note if you are using the new HU app it does not have all the forums features on it, so we suggest you use the full website version.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Wow, I feel for you, you've got a lot going on. Would it be an idea to start one new thing a week, as opposed to try everything at once. For example, week one you could start doing some exercise. Say walking as I don't know how active you are. Then on week two focus on the alcohol reduction whilst continuing to exercise. And week 3 you could bring in the healthier eating once you felt a bit more in control of alcohol/exercise. Just a thought ☺

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum let you know you're not alone
I don't know if you have symptoms of liver disease... I do have ocasional symptoms and it's usually related to food with a lot of trans fat or a lot of carbohydrates/sugar. So I try to avoid them... If you eat healthy fats, avoid processed foods and easily available sugar you should be able to decrease the impact on your liver. So, only wholemeal bread, no Candies, fast food, soft drinks and you should be ok
I'm not a nutricionist and not a doctor (I'm a vet, but don't deal with human patients :)). If any concerns you can always discuss it with a professional.
