Hi everyone I'm 18. My name is Emily but everyone calls me Em. Due to being depressed I put a lot of weight on I used to be 12 stone I am now over 15. I don't like how I look I can't even look myself in the mirror and say I like my body because I really don't.
I am trying to lose weight but everything I do I just put the weight back on even tho I am trying my hardest to lose it.
Any ideas or advice would really help me

That's a great start. Do please take your time to read through the info that the administrators will direct you to, then once you choose to calorie count (I use the NHS BMI calculator and the free app myfitnesspal to do the work of counting calories etc. for me) or whatever choice you make, sit down and consider what foods you like that you can include to give you a shopping list that will give you a healthier week ahead and all the ingredients to work with - knowing you like these things.
If you're living with family or friends, consider letting them know not to offer you things outside your plan?
Then make your start - this is for you and only you can make it happen.. And you really can do this to make the rest of your life healthier and fitter than it is now.
Hi Em, welcome to the forum! I am sorry to hear that you have felt depressed and about your battle with weight. The good news is that you have come to the right place. Everyone here is lovely. My advice is to set yourself small goals. For example I have six stones to Lose and my first goal is to lose half a stone. Keep tuning in to the forum Em, it helps. Take care of yourself xx
Hi Em great that you have joined us. Keep coming on here and posting, join in the conversations and look at some of the challenges.
No one on here makes any judgements, people offer shed loads of support.
Think about one single change that you could make in terms of something you eat and start with that. Might be getting rid of sugar, drinking more water, walking more - I have recently bought a hoops hoop. Not very good at it, do it on my own in the garden when no one is in the house and I think I get most of my exercise from bending down to pick it up.
Have a look at the Daily Diary thread and see what others are eating, there are always so many ideas to pinch.
Hello Emily19 9and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum. Depression is a very difficult thing to battle, but you have taken a really important step on your weight loss journey so well done 😊
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask ☺
I weighed myself yesterday at my partners house and I was 15.2. I am really short so it makes me look really fat and I hate it
Welcome!! This is such a positive environment for all of us battling the bulge. So far I'm taking baby steps. One day at a time! I am familiar with depression and how debilitating it can be. It is important to celebrate our small victories! I'm excited to hear how you will approach this journey. Good vibes coming your way!
Welcome, em! I'm short, too. Not easy being short, but you can certainly be in charge of your weight. I like my fitness pal at the moment, if you do calories counting, it's certainly worth trying
Just to let you know if you are thinking of getting some activity there is a national initiative called runandtalk aimed at getting people with mental health concerns active. I lead one in Birmingham and we call it walk or run and talk as lots of people walk. We don't go far are really friendly. I'm involved because excercise really helped my depression.
Where in the UK are you? If interested I can direct you to a local one or search for #runandtalk
