Introducing myself!

Hi, I'm new here so thought I'd introduce myself! I am hoping to lose 3 1/2 stone. My current weight is 12stone 8.5 lbs. I was overweight as a child but managed to lose it and control it over the years though with some some yo yoing in between!! It's been slowly creeping up for the past couple of of of years though and I want to do something about it.

I have an underactive thyroid and I also have a condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which is a connective tissue disorder affecting my joints and internal organs too. It means my mobility is limited so exercise is difficult for me though I stay as active as I can. I used to be a gym bunny so it's been a big change for me and I struggle to lose and maintain my weight without exercise and haven't found any exercise yet that I am able to do without causing a flare up. Therefore I really need to keep a close eye on what I'm eating as when I was spending an hour at the gym 5 times a week I could afford to eat more than I can now!

Anyway, I look forward to being an active member here and wish you all success in reaching your goals.

Hi and welcome, zebra :)

There are a couple of other communities that may also be able to offer you support

healthunlocked.com/edsuk

healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi Zebra78 and welcome.

Well done for sounding so upbeat despite what you're having to deal with. The good news is that exercise doesn't have to be a component of weight loss. If you can find something you can do, then great but it's not a deal breaker.

It pretty much boils down to calories in against calories out and moreless has provided you with plenty of information to enable you to investigate how you might do that.

If you can, get involved with this forum as it helps concentrate the mind, plus the friendly, helpful people are always here to provide support through your ups or downs.

Good luck!

Sorry for some reason when I tag someone the post sends automatically!! Thank you and I hope your foot heals quickly. I'm hoping to lose a stone by end of August and then reach a healthy BMI by May next year but will see how it goes! Wishing you all thelse best in reaching your goals too.
