Hi, I joined this site a few weeks ago but haven't posted anything yet although I have been following the threads with interest. I'm my late 40's, I weigh 14 st 10 lbs and am 5 ft 1. I want to lose weight for a holiday and to feel better about myself.
Hi, introducing myself: Hi, I joined... - Weight Loss Support
Hi, introducing myself
Hi Stivian
Welcome to the weight loss forum.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section on the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start along with a photo so you can see the changes on the days when the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh-ins so why not come along and join us. You can find them on the Home page in Events on the right hand side. Just click on the weigh-in and state your starting weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
To get the best out of the forum be active, share experience, tips and ideas. Read through some of the posts, they are very motivating.
Have a good first week.
Rose
Thank you. I shall try to join in a weigh in group soon. 😀
Hi Stivian and welcome to this wonderful forum. You have obviously spent some time having a look around which is great. Do you have a plan of how you are going to loose the weight? Do you have a target and when is the holiday? What ever you intend to do, make sure it is sustainable and don't cut your calories down too low. Good luck
Hi lucigret, the holiday is in June and I'm going riding with some friends. I'm most terrified of being told that I weigh too much to ride any of the horses as some places have very strict maximum weights! I'm counting calories, loosely, and trying to eat healthily! Thanks for replying.
ohh, I understand our worry, you've got 4 months though to make a difference. Just try and be organised and plan ahead so you don't just grab at food mindlessly. Good luck, keep posting - you could come and join the Friday weigh in tomorrow - it can help to feel as though you are 'accountable', no pressure though, just lots of support.😃
Welcome Stivian.
Sorry for asking but how loosely are you counting calories? It was probably because I was quite a novice at this whole thing when I started, however, I was pretty shocked at how calorie laden certain things are.
Good luck to you.
Hi, I'm adding up the things that have it on the packet & guestimating the rest! But I take your point! My guesstimates are probably on the low side!! Tomorrow, I shall attempt to log my weight & get a bit more serious about the counting ! 😃 Thanks for replying & nice to meet you.
Well worth buying a cheap set of add and weigh digital scales. Really good for weighing the very calorific items such as butter, cheese, oils... Guessing is ok for now, but as you lose weight you'll need to be more precise!
Welcome! I posted for the first time yesterday and already feel a part of the community, hope you have the same experience.
Thank you. Yes, it's great, isn't it.
Hello Stivian
Glad you've introduced yourself, make yourself at home! Good luck losing the extra weight, your stats are similar to mine when I started (I am slightly taller at 5 foot 2 inches and my starting weight was over 15 stone). As you can see from my badge, I have already lost over 4 stone so far and that is in large part thanks to this site! Before joining here I could only lose about a stone and then I would regain it again with added lbs!!! I aim to keep the weight off and I'm working at being a maintainer for now with a view to losing another stone when I am ready! You can do this too, just takes some will power, motivation and willingness to learn and persistence!!

Hi Stivian. My stat's are very similar to yours! I'm 5 ft 1 and weighted 14st 11 at the start! I'm 13st 7 now and feel great and motivated to continue. It'll probably take until Christmas but as long as in the long term it's going in the right direction it doesn't matter if it takes longer. Keep positive and good luck. x
Thanks, that's brilliant. Good points. Hopefully, I will be posting similar at sometime in the future!
Thanks for replying & good to meet you.
Hi Stivian and welcome.
If you haven't already spotted it, please do have a read here to read about my weight loss journey: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
I started at 14 stone (size 24), 4ft 9", 49 years old. That was 5 years ago! Now 54, a tad over 10 stone (size 16). I'm still only 4ft 9".....
