Hi all! I have never been what you'd call "light" but I have put on over a stone in the past year and at age 52 this cannot be allowed to continue! So here I am, just printed off the docs for week 1 of my weight-loss journey, officially starting on Monday but I am having a practice over the weekend to get into the way of calorie-counting.

I generally eat lots of healthy food, trouble is I also have lots of treats, I seem to have no "off" switch. Sharing a household with three super-slim, eat-anything males who buy lots of crisps, biscuits etc does not help!

Light exercise daily on my bike commute but it's only for about 3 miles (one hill). Otherwise it's gardening. The only exercise class I have ever taken to is Zumba and there is no class near me at the moment. I might dust off my hula hoop though ...

So ... currently 12st 2 lb, target is to get back into the "healthy weight" zone (11 st) in the first instance, but then if I get the taste for it I will aim to go lower ...!

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

Thank you Rose.

Yes to the 12-week plan! I have the Week 1 chart pinned on my fridge ready for Monday. I generally find it quite challenging to make meals which suit both me and my family (one slim, active husband, 2 skinny teen boys) so I will certainly check out the menu ideas.

Thanks for the idea about taking a photo every week - that's likely to be quite motivating for me. However I don't want to be displaying photos where other people can see them...!

Welcome bikegrrrl

You've discovered a fantastic forum. Loads of supportive people here and the more you get involved greater success you'll have.

It's a good idea to pick a weigh in day and join in once a week. I'd like to suggest Wednesday, only because it's a brilliant day :)

....but all of them are great. Good luck x

Hi, i can sympathise with you having shared my house with a super fit slim son whos now moved in his own place and a hubby who has never had a weight problem in his life but we can do this when we put our minds to it. Enjoy your weekend

crikey we sound similar, same age and families - men who have no problem with weight gain, except after losing both my parents in the last few years I have piled on more weight than you have, so I could say lucky you ☺but I know any llb over what you want to be is a llb too much

good luck
