Fatigue and Dignosed with Osteoporosis

Can I please have advice re recent test. I have been suffering with Fatigue for a very long time. GP says all bloods normal!

Accord Levothyroxine 100mg

Teva Thyroxine 25mg - both taken daily an hour before food.

Bloods all taken 8.30am and fasting. I do take a B12 sublingual supplement Bio active 3000mcg Methylcobalamin alternate days, Vitamin D 2,000IU, Vitamin K mk7 200ug, Zinc Picolinate 22mg. Vitamins taken daily, 3 hours after Levothyroxine.

TSH 0.14 miu (0.27 - 4.2)

Free T3 3.9 pmol (3.1 - 6.8)

Free T4. 19 pmol (12 - 22)

Vitamin D 67mmol (> 50)

Ferritin 65ng/m (13 - 150)

Foliate. 16.2ng/ml (3.9 - 26.8)

B12. 527ng/l ( 197 - 771)

Iron. 18.8umol ( 5.8 - 34.5)

Calcium 2.31 mmol ( 2.2 - 2.55)

My diet is whole foods, dairy, eggs, fish and Gluten free. Lots of veg, beans and fruit I don't eat any meat.

My Gp sent me for a Dexa scan, and the results need following up. I was diagnosed with Oesteopenia 5 years ago. I have broken a few bones in past couple of years, I would think I have Osteoporosis now. Is there a link with Levothyroxine and bone health, I have been taking Levo for 35years.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you in anticipation.

We discussed that Teva brand upsets many people

Did you try any other brand

Next prescription ask for Vencamil 25mcg - lactose free and mannitol free

Or other alternatives are Wockhardt or Mercury Pharma

Or cut Accord 50mcg in half or 100mcg into 1/4’s

Your conversion rate of Ft4 to Ft3 is very poor

Free T4 (fT4) 19 pmol/L (12 - 22)

Ft4 70.0% through range

Free T3 (fT3) 3.9 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 very low at 21.6% through range

Like many thyroid patients you are likely to benefit from addition of T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine

GP can not initiate T3

You have to see endocrinologist

All but impossible to get referral on NHS - 1-2 year wait and referral refused if TSH and Ft4 are “normal “

Here’s link for how to request Thyroid U.K.list of private Doctors emailed to you, but within the email a link to download list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3

Ideally choose an endocrinologist to see privately initially and who also does NHS consultations so that might eventually transfer to getting T3 on NHS

meanwhile work on improving low vitamin levels

Increasing vitamin D

Adding daily magnesium

And which vitamin B complex are you taking

Look at increasing iron rich foods in your diet

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

B12 nature provides3000mcg

B complex solgar 100 I these alternate days.

I have got solgar magnesium citrate 400mg.

I use Viridian vit D 2000 in, what amount should I be taking and can you recommend maybe a better brand?

Not sure about iron as I don't eat meat?

I will definitely look into seeing a private endo and checking out all the info you have sent me.

You ladies on here make a difference to so many lives.

Not sure about iron as I don't eat meat?

so you may need to supplement iron

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing.

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

If taking any iron supplements stop 3-5 days before testing

Vitamin D 67mmol (> 50)

I use Viridian vit D 2000 in, what amount should I be taking and can you recommend maybe a better brand?

So try 4000iu daily and retest in 2-3 months

Thank you SlowDragon, so much info. I never realised the link between Iron and bone health. I now have a plan, how long before I do a retest of Thyroid/ Iron etc ?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply totamari

Retest thyroid minimum 8 weeks after changing Teva to Vencamil

Low iron/ferritin

Get full iron panel test and come back with new post once you get results
