Blood test protocols (possibly non-thyroid ones)

Firmly of the opinion that people here 'know' lots of things

My new consultant is asking my GP for the following tests:

FBC

Renal profile

Lipid profile - need to check if she wants fasting or non fasting

Liver Function tests

9am cortisol - 9am 🙄

LH and FSH and oestradiol

Prolactin

TSH and FT4 - normal rules ☺️

Vitamin D and bone profile and PTH

ferritin

ANA

IGF-1

Vitamin B12 and folate - B12 pointless as I supplement...

CRP and ESR

HbA1c

If my GP says No I have to pay for them privately so I might be back to ask about that too - but what do I need to watch out for with these tests

sorry you haven’t had a reply yet , hopefully my reply pushes it up the board and someone who recognises this will reply 👍

In my opinion it depends what you want to know.

My GP wants to see my levels without supplementation.

I want to see how well my supplements are working.

So you decide what you want to know.

The only thing I’d stop is B Complex or Multivits that contain biotin as this can affect results so stop 3-5 days before.

My tip for getting GP to test is to say you have been supplementing and need to check you aren’t taking too much and heading for toxicity.

Some of what you list is in a standard NHS full blood count.

Others are ones that the GP or consultants have to ask for. To my may want to know why. I find they are generally willing if to see is good reason. The phlebotomist will often add one for me too if I mention something is due.

My favoured private tests are Medichecks for ease of reading the report. They can be a little more expensive but often have 20% off codes on a banner. I use advanced thyroid if I want vits.

don’t pay for pointless tests, just tell the practitioner it’s pointless 👍
