Hello everyone.

Firstly I want to say a big thanks to everyone that helped me understand my mum's results and situation. I also got my wires crossed and gave some wrong info. My mum did have a test before they prescribed 25mg, TSH 8.58. They said as she was 'borderline' they would try levo before considering HRT.

She has picked up repeat prescription and we are starting again on 25 for 6-8 weeks where we will re-test/ask for increase in dose if needed. Also waiting for the vitamins etc to be tested - so thank you! And apologies for the misinformation!

I've had some private results back which I thought I would do before my endo/cfs appt in a couple of weeks. I dont think they will help in terms of getting any thyroid support but hey ho. Here they are for reference 😊 Not diagnosed and not taking any levo.

Currently take oestrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone as I am in surgical menopause. I also have propranolol occasionally for anxiety when I'm in work. Maybe 3 or 4 tablets a week which I've now read isn't the best.

I've been taking vit d spray, vit d and k2, B12, B Complex (stopped 9 days before test), iron and magnesium and I must say they have helped a lot

Good to hear you have got your Mum back on track... well done πŸ€—

Your frees are on the low side but like you say propranolol does suppress thyroid hormones, perhaps you can speak with your Endo about alternatives?

Good work adding all the supplements they are key to helping your thyroid, had you done a full iron panel before adding as it's something you don't want to overdo?

Thank you! Yes I'll mention about the propranolol at my appt. I dont like to take any SSRI medication and have found propranolol handy for calming my nerves at times. I can go some weeks without using it but it has been more regular recently. I'll see what they suggest!

I didn't have a full panel unfortunately, my menopause doctor told me to add it because ferritin was low-ish. I feel like it's the iron that has helped with restless legs as I take it before bed. Are there any symptoms to look out for with having too much?

That is bad advice from your meno Dr as you can have low ferritin and still have high iron! Magnesium is the thing for restless legs, take that before bed and get someone to check your serum iron level πŸ€—

You might find upping your magnesium dose could help with the anxiety as it is calming... healthline.com/health/magne...

Ah right, it must be the magnesium then! The difference has been unbelievable, restless legs used to keep me awake most of the night. Thank you for your advice, I'll add that to my list for my appt 😊

Oh, I'm not the best to explain but I know they are used on Hyperthyroid folk... I'm thinking SlowDragon or humanbean could answer this more fully πŸ™ƒ

presumably both antibodies were within range?

Propranolol will slow uptake and conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Drugs that may decrease PTH include cimetidine and propranolol.

propranolol also may lower magnesium as result of lowering PTH

What were your most recent vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Gosh B12 was dire

Are you vegetarian or vegan

If not, did GP test for Pernicious Anaemia before you started on B12

Test vitamin D twice yearly when supplementing

Can test via NHS private testing service

Not vegetarian or vegan. I have these results also, not sure if that helps? GP and meno specialist both said B12 was fine at the time. Its only from this group that I started the jarrow supplements which have been great

So your B12 was just 4 points away from deficiency

High MCHC linked to B12 deficiency

Yet GP still did nothing

Unbelievable

Retest twice year and maintain at OPTIMAL levels
