Good evening thyroid team. I haven't posted for a little while, I hope you are all managing as best you can.
My Medichick Folate results came through and I cannot understand them.
>45nmol/L - range (8.83 - 60.8)
Also, would you comment on my thyroid results?
TSH 0.1 - (0.27 - 4.2)
Free T3 5.2 (3.1 - (6.8)
T4 16.8 - (12 - 22)
Vit D 72 - (50 - 250)
B12 150 - (37.5 - 188)
I have been a little lapse with my vit regime.
I usually take Thorne B basic, SI B12 and sublingual D + K2, Amoungst others. Magnesium too.
I haven't taken the MethylFolate for a while. Can you remind me whens best to take the Folate?
As a sideline, I had a 9am cortisol test that came back as 0.087. - (133 - 532).
It is so difficult to know whether low cortisol or an underactive thyroid is causing my crushing chronic fatigue. I can manage when staying at home but going out to med appointments etc causes PEM.
I was diognosed with ME/CFS 2 years ago but I think that was just a label to shut me up because getting to the root of whats wrong would be an expensive and time taking process.
So like many of us on HU, we do our our own research. And its exhausting!! But, thank goodness for the internet and HU.
I have an ATCH test on the 13th of March and then an endo appointment the following week.
I would be greatful for someone to explain the Folate to me and comments on the thyroid results would be useful.
Thank you
Jane π

Ask for your gut microbiome and genetic code to be tested.
I have been carrying out quite a bit of Research and most things are caused by Leaky gut syndrome, Gastrointestinal problems/permeability etc....Maybe check out a Dr Eduardo Patrick on YouTube....He Carries out a lot of Scientific Research with his Colleagues in Brazil....He said with the right treatment Anyone can put Hashimoto's in remission = Optimal Vitamin D, K, Magnesium, all B Vitamins etc.....He certainly doesn't like Big Pharma's Drugs. He advocates Anti inflammatory diet, natural remedies like Oregano Oil, Beverbine etc.....
Your Vitamin D is low, needs to be at least 125-150...
I can't make out a result for Folate test? I only see >45 nmol/L reference rrange 8.8.3-60.8 π
Health Leads Methylfolate I find good 400mcg to take with B Complex Vitamins in the Morning after food
Ask GP/CONSULTANTS first. I don't know which Companies carry the tests out Privately. Genetic code testing can confirm if you have/don't have specific diseases I.I.e. underlying causes for any illness you have and determine if you have a higher risk of developing certain conditions etc changes, Mutations, variants in your DNA, inherited conditions π

That suggests that the testing equipment doesn't measure higher than 45 and your result was higher than that so they can only tell you that your level is greater than 45. This being the case you don't need a separate Folate supplement, a B Complex will be sufficient and this should be taken no later than lunchtime (as it can be stimulating so you wont want it in the evening as it may interfere with sleep) and it should be 2 hours away from thyroid meds .
FT4 at 48% through range might be a little low but you seem to be converting well as FT3 is 56.8% through range . However , I am assuming that you take Levo only and that you followed our guidance re testing, ie you took last dose of Levo 24 hours before the test .
I am surprised that after not converting T4 in the past. that I can now. I wonder why that is?
Maybe you now have better nutrient levels than back then, we need good nutrient levels for conversion. Similarly selenium aids conversion, perhaps there's more selenium in your diet now.
You have hit the nail on the head, I started B complex, folate, selenium, B12 and D + K2 and vit C around 5/6 months ago - (properly) rather than ad-hoc and I think thats made the difference.
Especially Selenium. It has been advised to take a holiday for a few weeks every few months of selenium. Which I have. Yet the last break from them wasn't planned, I've just been a bit lax with my vitamin regime.
I use a Selenium once suggested on this site, Pure Eencapsulations, selemenethionine. Apparently it absorbs into the system better.
However my folate levels are still good even after missing the last 3 weeks.
Just goes to show the importance of getting the right nutrition and vitamins. By the way I don't have any grains or bread etc. Wow, what a difference to my tummy.
I eat fish, some meat and light summer veg, no root veg, (except the occasional small portion of fish pie with potato)
I have coconut yoghurt, berries, a few nuts, no oil, just some butter to cook fish etc.
It took a while to get used to this way of eating but I feel better for it. I still have low cortisol. CFS ... thats being looked into.
The main thing is I've stopped all the fake food like vegan cheese and veggie processed products.
It has been helped though by the fact that I have zero apatite. Not sure if I'm supposed to mention the product name but I also tried a protein, high calorie protein drink to put weight on.
The product is marvelous. Don't want to advertise it so just PM if you want to know what it it. Its great for those that dont have an appetite and struggle to eat it is a fully nutritional calalorific meal as a drink.
I have tried these drinks in the past and the fillers have upset my tummy. This one hasn't.
Wasn't going to mention my diet. Gone from Selenium to food. Oh well, thats what this forums all about. Spreading the word about what we find helps. Although if course we are all different.
Have a peaceful cosy weekend everyone if you can and thank you everyone for sharing your advice, knowledge and experiences. You have helped me so much in understanding my body.
