Following on from my recent post my latest test results are as follows:-

FT3 - 5.8 (3.1-6.8)

T4 - 13.7 (12-22)

TSH - 0.01 (0.27-4.2)

TPO - <9 (0-34)

TG - 14 (0-115)

Vitamin D - 96 (50-200)

Vitamin B12 - 71 (25.1-165)

Ferritin - 41 (13-150)

Folate - 12.3 (>2.9)

CRP HS - 0.7 (0-5)

I currently take 1 x 50mg Propylthiouracil a day.

Thank you to everyone who responded with information to my previous post. If there is any other advice you can give me based on the above results, it would be very much appreciated.

Vit D needs to be higher. Have a look on fb Vit D info as it helps with dosing levels etc and it’s a good place to start your journey.

Vitamin D - 96 (50-200)

Vitamin B12 - 71 (25.1-165)

Ferritin - 41 (13-150) 20% of the way through the range

Folate - 12.3 (>2.9)

CRP HS - 0.7 (0-5)

I currently take 1 x 50mg Propylthiouracil a day.

Vitamin D - Yours is just a whisker away from optimal which is, depending on source, either 100 - 150 nmol/L or 125 nmol/L.

For future reference, if you ever find your level dropping and want to raise to optimal you can use this calculator to work out your dose.

Also note that when supplementing Vitamin D it is advised that you also take vitamin K2 and magnesium (if you aren't already taking them). There are loads of posts about both of these on the forum, so you should search for them for further advice.

Vitamin B12 - The minimum level of B12 required for good health is usually given as > 70 and optimal is 100+. Read this link for more info:

viapath.co.uk/our-tests/act...

Your level is right on the recommended minimum so you would probably benefit from supplementing B12. The one that is usually recommended is methylcobalamin which is easily sourced from many supplement sites. To raise dose 1000mcg is a good dose for most of us.

You should also be taking a B Complex. After you have raised your Active B12 to 100+ you can probably stop taking it and just rely on the B Complex to keep your level up, but it does depend on how well you absorb B12. One suggested supplement is this one :

cytoplan.co.uk/vitamin-b12-...

Both the forms of B12 in the above supplement are active B12 that the body can make use of immediately and without having to convert it into a different form.

Ferritin (Iron stores) - Optimal for this is usually quoted as 50% - 75% of the way through the range i.e. about 80 - 120 with the range you've given. Alternatively, with the reference range you've given a narrower range for optimal is 90 - 110ug/L.

It is not a good idea to raise ferritin without first knowing what your serum iron is. People can't tell before they supplement whether iron supplements will raise their ferritin or their serum iron or both. Ferritin and iron can both be low, both be high, both be okay, or one can be high while the other is low, and different patterns of results can tell you different things about your health. This link explains the problem :

I wrote this reply to a member about iron supplements and doses, that you might find helpful:

It is actually better to raise iron with food rather than supplements if you can but that only works well enough for some people. Always test regularly enough to be sure that you are not going over-optimal on any iron-related measure.

Folate - Without a top of range it is not possible to quote an optimal level of folate. However, a common result that people find suits them is to have a level into double figures. I try to get my level up to 15 - 20. This link is well worth reading :

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

CRP - C-Reactive Protein - This is a measure of inflammation, so obviously the lower the better. Optimal is < 1, which yours is already, so this is very good.

Thank you, that's very helpful. I take K2 & magnesium and I'm trying to increase my folate and ferritin levels through my diet as opposed to taking supplements.

FT3 - 5.8 (3.1-6.8) 73% of the way through the range

T4 - 13.7 (12-22) 17% of the way through the range

TSH - 0.01 (0.27-4.2)

TPO - <9 (0-34) - Negative

TG - 14 (0-115) - Negative

TPO and TG - These are antibodies. If either of these were positive then they would indicate that you had Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, also known as Autoimmune Thyroid Disease or Autoimmune Thyroiditis. Just because both your antibody levels are currently negative doesn't mean that you don't have Hashi's, because levels of antibodies fluctuate. But for now there is no evidence that you have the condition (unless you've had positive results in the past).

Free T4 - Some people do very well with very low levels or below range levels of Free T4 as long as they have plenty of Free T3. Some people need levels of Free T4 to be around 60% - 80% of the way through the range. I don't know how you feel.

Free T3 - This is the active thyroid hormone. If levels are low in range or under range people feel very hypothyroid. If levels are high or over the range then people feel hyperthyroid.

I see that you are taking PTU, an anti-thyroid (AT) drug, so presumably you have a history of hyperthyroidism or Graves Disease. (I haven't read your previous posts.) I don't know a huge amount about hyperthyroidism, but I have seen that AT drugs will often end up with the patient having good or high levels of Free T3 while levels of Free T4 are low, and this might be fine for you.

Some endos will give the patient enough AT drugs to completely stop thyroid hormone production and then treat the patient as hypothyroid, called Block and Replace. On the other hand, some patients are perfectly happy with the kind of results you have for Free T4 and Free T3.

Thank you, that's very helpful. I feel very well taking PTU and am happy to keep taking it, despite the endo trying to convince me to have surgery or RAI therapy.
