Hello
I have been referred to an endo by my GP to investigate elevated prolactin levels. I discovered this by chance from a Medichecks result for menopause screening. I had two further tests on the NHS, and all three showed levels of around 700 (the upper level is around 500).
There are obviously big delays within the NHS, so I was wondering about seeing someone privately. I’ve had a terrible relationship with endos in the 15 or so years since I was diagnosed hypothyroid, so I’m anxious about a) spending lots of money for a pointless consultation or b) waiting for months and months for a pointless consultation! I haven’t seen an endo in years, nor has the NHS prescribed me anything in that time.
If I saw someone from the Thyroid UK list, which I have, would they be less likely to make a fuss about me taking NDT and having a suppressed TSH? Is there a chance I could get a prescription for NDT? I’ve sourced my own for years but we all know what the supply is like, so a prescription would do away with that concern.
I’m thinking of a “two birds, one stone” thing. If I do end up spending a lot of money to see someone regarding the prolactin, I’d like them to assess the thyroid meds.
What would you do? I’m really interested to know!
Thanks, Jo
