Another useless Endo visit “Rant”

Another emotional roller coaster ride with my Endo visit yesterday as it started out great he was 45 minutes late for my appointment and then he was in a mad dash to throw my concerns away so he could move on to next appointment. Not so fast mister.

Anyway he is pleased to announce Im cancer free and my thyroid levels are now “perfect” and that my dose is absolutely fine and my “issues” are not thyroid related at all. Im tired of hearing this and I asked him point blank then WTH is all these issues Im experiencing if its not my lack of thyroid causing them ? He said well probably your psoriatic arthritis and I said oh really that’s funny my Rheumatologist says it my thyroid and my neurologist says its my hormones but you say it not …. Well it’s something and Im sick of dealing with this so he agreed to change and up my medication I will be starting soon Tirosint 112mcg and still take the 10mcg Cytomel and nope can’t up it. This is such a small increase Im not feeling this will be helpful and my 100 pound weight gain in 5 years according to him doesn’t warrant a much higher dose… I disagree.

I asked him about Armour thyroid and he looked at me and said thats hard to regulate and “it comes from a pig” with this eww look on his face I said nothing wrong with AT its been around longer then Levo and he immediately changed the subject.

I will retest in 3 months at this point I will pay out of pocket for the FT3 test because he said its not a needed test “lord help me”and I will ask my primary doctor to order a complete vitamin and iron panel and see if this stuff looks good.

Has anyone tried Dr. Westin supplements for thyroid? If so did they help. I keep seeing these supplements advertised and Im just curious.

Rant over!

Piece of work isn’t he … why do these doctors all suck so bad?

Lalatoot profile image
Lalatoot in reply toBatty1

It almost takes skill to be so bad. Obstruction is the new medical science - comes in the medical dictionary after obstetrics.

LMAO your right it does take skills to be so bad.

Hi Batty he must be the twin brother of the one I saw or do they all go to the same endocrinologist school, why aren’t any of them interested and why are a good majority of them men

fuchsia-pink profile image
fuchsia-pink in reply toTVOReason

I have a theory that, in the medical pecking order, brain surgeons come at the top, followed by cancer specialists more generally ... and down at the bottom are endos and liver specialists - because liver docs deal with drunks and endos deal with people who can't be "cured" - at best we can be "kept stable" - so you just don't get the brightest, most able or ambitious of the intake volunteering for the role ...

Batty1 in reply toTVOReason

No its not just the male Endo’s that suck the females suck too.

I should have added to my list... Some heart valves that are transplanted into humans come from pigs :

JoannePA profile image

Sorry to hear that, not that unusual unfortunately! As an endocrinologist you would have thought he would also know that for many years all that kept diabetics alive was insulin synthesised from pigs too!

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toJoannePA

He knows he just doesn’t want to deal with adjustments of meds Im mean hell he begrudgingly gave me and extra 84mcg per week increase yup you read that right 84mcg increase …. What a mighty mighty good man!

Calls endos office, secretary answers….

Me: hi I’d like to make a Telehealth appointment.

Her: what’s your name?

Me: says name.

Her: weren’t you here last week?

Me: yes, but I’d like a follow up appt.

Her: why? No it’s too soon.

Me: concerning my treatment.

Her: I’m looking at your chart right now, your treatment is Synthroid and cytomel, that’s your treatment and there’s no other treatment.

Me: I’m not happy with it.

Her: you have no choice.

Me: (starting to get pissed) I don’t have to stay on these doses.

Her: well im looking at your labs and they’re regular so you’re fine, we’re not changing your dose.

Me: are you a nurse or doctor?

Her: no but I look at lab results all day, your dose is fine, you’re fine. No need for an appointment.

Me: I want to make an appointment.

Her: your symptoms are not related to thyroid. No need for follow up appointment.

Me: (again) are you a doctor?

Her: no, all the patients are constantly calling here saying they don’t feel well. You just need to feel like that and deal with it!!!

Me: forget it, bye.

Yes I’m going to.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

Idk if we have office jockeys here

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

😂 “office Jockey” is someone who sits behind a desk.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

The secretary sits behind the desk here. Complaining to her about herself is ridiculous lol

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

I actually really don’t know how to proceed. I’ve been under this endo for the past 10 months and he sucks. He gaslights me all the time and now his secretary is doing the same.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Probably time for a new Endo or maybe just sit back for a while and try to get another appointment and then decide if its time to move on.

I haven’t had luck with any endo Ive seen in the past 5 years.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

They all really suck. Big time.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Wish I had a magic wand to curse these Endos with the very thing we all deal with on a daily basis.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

That’s why I was so upset with the secretary.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toMeanbeannyc

How are your labs currently and how are you feeling?

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

My little, little labs … horrible as usual Im 5 years post thyroidectomy (cancer) and my TSH has risen to almost 2 and my FT4 and T3 are in the low normal range as always and I have and Endo that believes Im doing good …. Sure I am I have gained so much weight because I have been unable to move like a human for almost 5 years because I developed psoriatic arthritis shortly after my thyroidectomy (home bound due to crippling arthritis for 3 years)….. I could go on and on and on but at last that really doesn’t gets me no place fast with Endo… my issues are dismissed and my weight is as you know ME always ME never thyroid induced nope just something Im doing to myself …. I was a fitness instructor and half marathoner before thyroidectomy now Im and overweight crippled lady and doesn’t look like its going to get better any time soon.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

So whatcha gonna do Batty1

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

It’s hard to sit back and wait while u feel like doody everyday. Mine is back up to 2+ too.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Not much I can do really I have had 7 Endo’s in 5 years chasing this dream of getting back what I lost and really its pretty much gone and I need to move forward with who Iam now “let go of the past”.

If at any point I start to feel really bad I will definitely put my foot down and light my current endo up since opening my mouth isn’t really an issue for me and the only real issue I seem to be having lately is muscle fatigue no matter what I'm doing , for example stirring a pot for can leave me with fatigue in my arms and this isn’t a constant issue it’s random but severe when it happens.

What is your end goal when it comes to thyroid health?

FancyPants54 profile image
FancyPants54 in reply toBatty1

I would like to feel like life is worth living again. It's 9 years now since I could dance and ride my bike and go on stage and have fun. 9 years since doing the housework just came without thinking about it.

My feet and legs are terribly painful and my feet are a size bigger than they used to be. I literally don't know how to carry on. I am totally sedentary and have no strength to work. I never feel joy. I am on both Levo and T3. Each time I raise the T3 I feel good for a day, in fact this last time I survived a week before I felt as awful again. But then it just reverts back to awful.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toFancyPants54

I feel for you it certainly does suck to lose yourself overnight.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

But they still… don’t care.. no matter how much noise u make.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Thats true they don’t care and sadly we can’t make them… don’t really know the answer to any of this.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

Go to a private doctor who cares if you throw a lot of money at them?

That’s what I’m starting to do! lol.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

I do go private and it cost me $400.00 a visit… don’t care how much you spend outcome is pretty much the same.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

I just had such a good appt Batty1 … I am actually crying tears

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Oh thats great … what did he/she say?

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

“Why do you need me to up your dose for you? You have Synthroid at home, cut themUp and increase. U want to increase T4? Cut up your Synthroid and increase by 25, you want to increase your T3? Do it!”

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Oh nice Basically he said you can medicate yourself, does this mean he will give you refills as needed?

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

It’s a woman, and she said I have so many doses of Synthroid to not waste them. Start cutting them up and using them. She said watch out for hyper symptoms, cut back if I feel hyper. But if I don’t feel well on 112 no reason to stay on it. She said tsh isn’t low and frees aren’t high, undermedicated obvi

Slowly increase. Drop back if hyper symptoms occur, etc.

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Nice… you sound like me I have such a large collection of thyroid meds.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

I hoard them. lol.

I have 50mcg-112mcg Synthroid.

5mcg Pfizer cytomel.

5mcg generic lio.

1/4-1 grain armour.

88-100 tirosint.

LMAO!

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toBatty1

And guess what. NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER WORKED! hahah

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply toMeanbeannyc

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toLocalhero

I said I don’t feel well on 112 Synthroid. Idc what my tsh is, her response “so why are you still on it?”

Localhero profile image
Localhero in reply toMeanbeannyc

A fair question and a hopeful indication of her approach!

My response… “Bc my endocrinologist is a masochist who is holding me hostage” …

Localhero in reply toMeanbeannyc

Ah, but you’re taking your power back now! Let us know how you get on with this new person 😊

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply toLocalhero

She said I can cut up my levo and increase my T4 by 25mcg or I can chew on a 5mcg cytomel all day in 1.25 increments til I feel hyper then drop back. The choice is mine.
