Blood test results 'normal' range

Can anyone comment on my recent test results...

TSH 2.14 (0.27 - 4.2)

T3 4.3 (3.1 - 6.8)

Free T4 12.4 (12 - 22)

TPO 0.18 (0 - 60 = negative)

TSH receptor antibody < 1.5 (0 - 3)

Looking online it seems I have Graves and hypothyroidism??

I feel best when my TSH is around 0.5. To me the results show I am underreplaced on T4 and T3 but GP says in reference range now. I feel so tired, cold and I have lost so much hair which is continuing to fall out.

I am on 50mcg of levo (Euthyrox) and 10mcg of liothyronine (thybonn). The lio is reduced for the past few months from 12.5 mcg cytomel as no supply of cytomel. And thybon comes in 20mcg so I've been splitting that - half a day.

I am speaking to the endo on 3 March but I think everything is pointing to me taking control of the situation and medicating myself with monitoring via medichecks or the like.

I am having more tests on Friday via GP: cortisol, estradiol, prolactin, GFR, testosterone, ferritin and folate. I was diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency (pituitary) in Thailand in 2015.

Any insights into this would be so appreciated.

So that members can respond, you need to add the 'ranges' for your results. Labs differ and so do the numbers but ranges are necessary..

To amend your post, click on the down arrow next to More and select edit.

There is nothing in your results or previous posts that suggests Graves , and also the test for Graves is overrange TRab , which you have here TSH receptor antibody < 1.5 (0 - 3)

and this is a negative result , so you don't have Graves

Thank you. It was unclear on the internet re TRab reference ranges.

OllyTojo

It was unclear on the internet re TRab reference ranges.

Don't look on the internet for reference ranges. The ranges are specific to the lab which does your test so you can only use the range that comes with your result :)

Thank you :) All the ranges I read on the internet put me in the graves category. I would have been surprised if you can be hypo and have graves.

Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Often necessary to be Splitting daily dose T3 in to 2 or 3 smaller doses.

Day before test

Was last 2.5mcg dose of T3 taken 8-12 hour’s before test

On levothyroxine plus T3 it’s likely to have very low TSH when adequately treated

Most important results are ALWAYS FT3 followed by Ft4

Typically most people will need Ft4 and Ft3 at least 60% through range

Ft4 at least around 18

Ft3 at least around 5-5.5

Clearly you are currently under medicated

Suggest you increase levothyroxine dose by 25mcg and retest in 6-8 weeks

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Hello SlowDragon. Thank you so much for this reply. So helpful. Yes T3 and TSH were done first thing before meds and food as per info I had read on here. FT4 was done in the afternoon a few months ago. I am hoping they will repeat the FT4 on Friday morning 8.30am before food and meds. They are saying they don't need to as my results are fine. I have said endo needs them and have my fingers crossed. I am waiting for some T3 from abroad and will up that when it comes back to my original 12.5mcg and will split the doses in 2. Meantime, I will take a bit more thybon in the afternoon. Then increase levo after a few weeks.

This is what I thought but I wanted to wait for all my tests to come back so that they and I can see how I'm doing on the current dosage.

I've been saying for ages I feel cold, my digestion isn't working and my hair's falling out. Their reply: 'it's winter'. I'd laugh if it was funny :(

Essential to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together at same time

Testing separately is completely useless

That's interesting. I didn't realise. I have had such a struggle to get them done. T4 and TSH were done in A&E in November (at my sneeky request when they were doing other tests. I was expecting them to do all 3 tests). I had acute kidney failure out of the blue (50% loss in function across all markers and off the chart blood pressure and irregular heart beat). Do you know if suddenly stopping T3 would affect the heart and kidneys. I was given old T3 by pharmacy that hadn't been stored properly (needed to be kept in the fridge). My TSH was 3.39 up from 1.5 suddenly. Hair has been falling out since then. They won't do T4 as my TSH is normal. I think I'll just bite the bullet and fund my own thyroid health from now on. I think it's going to be the only way to successfully get my thyroid levels right. Thank you for your replies. It is much appreciated.

I gave up fighting for full testing about 8 years ago

Testing full thyroid and vitamins once a year - Medichecks often cheapest

Testing just TSH Ft4 and Ft3 via Monitor My Health after any dose changes £26.10

That's brilliant SlowDragon. Thank you. I feel much more upbeat and relieved to know I have access to all that I need to be able to sort this for myself. Thank you so much 🙂

Only test early Monday or Tuesday morning and post back via tracked 24 hour postal service

Always remember to stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before all blood tests as biotin can falsely affect test results
