I was diagnosed with myxoedema hypothyroidism in 1989 and have taken 150 mcg Levo ever since. I am also coeliac. My new GP has recently queried my TSH and says I have been over medicated for a long time - since 2014 my TSH has been around 0.05 and my T4 in the upper range around 18.
My Oct 23 results were:
TSH < 0.05 (0.4 -5)
T4 16 (9 - 19)
My GP reduced my dose from 150mcg to 125 and said it might need reducing further. Now after 12 weeks on 125mcg Levo, I had a Medichecks blood test as my GP just wants to test my TSH. I followed the advice of no Levo for 24 hours and taking the test just before 9am. Here are my results:
TSH 0.39 ( 0.27 - 4.2 )
T3 3.8 ( 3.1 - 6.8 )
T4 23.7 ( 12 - 22 )
Ferritin 52.0 ( 30 - 650 )
Folate 41.8 ( > 7 )
Vitamin D 51.3 ( 50 - 250 )
B12 95.5 ( 37.5 - 188 )
Thyroglobulin Antibodies > 4000 ( 0 - 115 )
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 12.1 ( 0 - 34 )
I would really appreciate any help or advice regarding these results as I am seeing my GP next week. Many thanks.

Many thanks for your reply. I have just started taking Vitamin D but I haven’t been taking anything else. Should I be taking B12 and other supplements? Also do you think my T4 is too high?
Never agree to dose reduction unless Ft3 is over range
Generally thyroid patients need daily vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin B complex to maintain good vitamin levels
At moment your B12 and folate look ok, but no doubt will fall with reduced dose levothyroxine
FT3: 3.8 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)
FT3 now only 18.92% through range
Aim to keep ferritin at least over 70
Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet
Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption
This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Thank you for your incredible patience while you have been awaiting the outcome of our ferritin reference range review. We conducted this with Inuvi lab, which has now changed the reference ranges to the following:
Females 18 ≤ age < 40 30 to 180
Females 40 ≤ age < 50 30 to 207
Females 50 ≤ age < 60 30 to 264
Females Age ≥ 60 30 to 332
Males 18 ≤ age < 40 30 to 442
Males Age ≥ 40 30 to 518
The lower limits of 30 are by the NICE threshold of <30 for iron deficiency. Our review of Medichecks data has determined the upper limits. This retrospective study used a large dataset of blood test results from 25,425 healthy participants aged 18 to 97 over seven years. This is the most extensive study on ferritin reference ranges, and we hope to achieve journal publication so that these ranges can be applied more widely.
It's recommended that conversion of T4 to T3 be under 4 and if I've calculated correctly your most recent test is coming in at just over 6.I wouldn't worry too much about TSH, Doctors are obsessed by it and don't know any better. My most recent TSH was 0.09 and that was before I started T4/T3 combo two weeks ago.Id say it's barely detectable now but I currently feel the best I have in two years.T3 is the important number and yours is only around 19%.
