Update test results after 2 month. I need help to understand if I’m going on the right direction!

Hi! I’m back after 2 month of my previous post.

Last time I got wonderful advice. As my B12 was low I contacted my GP and after more test, I was suggested to get B12 vit once pernicious anemia was discarded.

In the last 8 weeks I’ve been taking:

Vit K2, Vit D, B12, Iron, Folate and T convert. I maintain my 75 mg of Levothyroxine and I add 1/2 pc Thybon 20 Henning a day.

This are my results from 16/9. Test were done at 7am, last Levothyroxine dosis 24hs before:

TSH 0.51 mIU/L (0.27-4.20)

T4 Total 73.2 nmol/L (66-181)

Free T4 11.2 pmol/L (12.0-22.0) (-8%in range)

Free T3 4.81 pmol/L (3.1-6.8). (46.22% in range)

Vit D 77 nmol/L (50-175)

Vit B12 371pmol/L ( defic:<145, Insuf. 145-300, considering reducing dose >569)

Serum folate 16.30 nmol/L (8.83-60.8)

Ferritin 49.4ug/L (13-150)

Magnesium 0.92 nmol/L ( 0.7-1.0)

Hs-CRP 2.14 mg/L (<5.0)

Cortisol 512.0 nmol/L (6am -10 am: 113-456)

Previous results from 25/6

TSH 1.28 mu/L (0.465-4.68)

Free thyroxine 12.3 pmol/L (10.0-28.2). (12.64 % in range)

Free T3 4.4 pmol/L (4.3-8.1). ((2.63% in range)

Vit D 73.4 nmol (50-200)

Vit B12 290 ng/L (239-931)

Active B12 50.9pmol/L (37.5-187.5)

Serum Folate 4.36 ug/L (2.76- >20)

Ferritin 15.0 ug/L (6-137)

Serum ferritin 20ug/L (13-150)

Iron saturation 19% (15-50%)

Transferrin binding capacity SAR 76 umol/L (50-85)

Serum transferrin (SAR) 3.05 gl/L (2-3.60)

Serum iron level (SAR) 15 umol/L (14-30)

Cortisol 105.0 ug/L (am: 123-626)

I notice some important changes on my energy levels and moods swings but still far from feeling good. I can see for my results I’m still far far away of optimal levels but wondering if I’m in the right direction. I started to consume fermented food and other natural probiotics to restore my gut and maybe in that way help with the absorption.

Thanks for you time!

Ana xx

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

If/when also on T3, make sure to take 5mcg daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Test was done early on the morning, before drinking or eating, last Levothyroxine dose 24 hours prior to test.

Didn’t know about the 5 daily of T3 8-12 hours prior to test! I’ll keep it on mind for next time...

So you probably need 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine

So you took 10mcg T3 at 12 hours or 24 hours before test?

10mcg T3 24 hours before test.

I also normally take my B12 vit at lunch time. I’ll change to breakfast!

So that’s a false low Ft3 result....likely come back a little higher if last 5mcg T3 was 12 hours prior to test

Ok. Thanks for this information! A false low it’s a great news considering I already thought this result a huge increase!

I’ll definitely follow the indications prior to next test.

If you're taking vit D, you also need to take magnesium. The two work together. I know that your magnesium blood test shows high, but the blood test is unreliable, dut to the way the body handles magnesium. You could still be deficient. Excess magnesium is excreted, anyway, so just take some. :)

Thanks for the reply! I started On magnesium 5 days ago. Haven’t taken before because it was included in the T converter pills my GP suggested but realized it was a low dose so better to take a supplement. I follow the suggestions on previous post to choose the best for me. Great to know I did right and there’s not risk on exceeding with my body needs .

Oh, yes, about the T Convert... Some of that magnesium in the pill is magnesium oxide. One of the worst forms of magnesium and - of course - the cheapest, which is why it's put in multis of this kind.

Multis are always, always, always a bad idea. This one hasn't got much in it, but it does have copper. And, hypos are usually high in copper, low in zinc. So, adding in more copper is not a good idea, it is not excreated. You should always get tested before taking copper. Or, better still, avoid all multis!

One of my golden rules in life is to never, ever take nutritional advice from a doctor. They know nothing about it, but think they do!

Oh! And I was soooo happy with this GP! She seems to understand hypothyroidism Way better than normal doctors ... She’s a functional doctor and very different to anyone I talked before 😞

Yes. That magnesium it’s bad and I discard it when I I read about magnesium’s types but ... just accepted to take it because I trusted this GP,

I finish the pills tomorrow and won’t buy them again ...

Thanks for the advice!
