Hi Everyone,

I have Hashimoto's disease and unknowingly been seriously hypo-thyroid for the last 2 years: Dizzy, lack of memory, low blood pressure, Fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, weak, exhausted...Have been taking 1 grain of Nature-Throid for many years and 25 ug T3. Have increased to 2 grain in the last 2 weeks.

An interpretation of the latest blood test results would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

TSH 0.01 mlU/L 0.30 - 3.94

Free T4 8.5 pmol/L 12.30 - 20.20

Free T3 6.4 ''' ' 3.70 - 6.70

D3 61 nmol 50 - 174

urea serum 3.2 2.5 - 7.8

Vit B12 516 ng 180- 999

Folate 6.1 ug no range given

Iron serum 20 umol 14- 30

Transferrin Serum 2.62 g/L 2.00 - 3.60

Total Iron binding Capacity serum 66 umol/L 50 - 85

Percentage Iron Saturation 31% 15- 50

Ferritin Serum 82 ug 13 150

Kind wishes

Astara

Those results don't suggest being very under medicated.

FT4 is very low, but that's typical on NDT

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

If/when on NDT and/or T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time of splitting of dose day before test.

Vitamin D is rather low.

B12 and folate might be better slightly higher

What supplements do you currently take?

Hi SlowDragon,

Thank you for your reply.

I take co-enzyme- q- 10, D3 6,000 units, magnesium, vit C, Vit K, digestive enzymes.

What iron would you suggest to buy that has proven beneficial?

Many Thanks

Your ferritin levels are fine. You don't need any iron

Never supplement iron unless GP has done full iron test panel that shows you are Anaemic

Vitamin D - is that mouth spray or tablets?

D3 capsule Life Extensions Uk

Many of us find that vitamin D mouth spray works better than tablets as it avoids poor gut function

Better You do 3000iu spray

Or one that includes vitamin K2 as well

Both available on Amazon

Have been taking 1 grain of Nature-Throid for many years and 25 ug T3. Have increased to 2 grain in the last 2 weeks.

So, when were these blood tests done? Before you increased your dose or after?

If before, they do not suggest you needed to increase your dose. Your FT3, the most important number, was almost at the top of the range. Increasing by 1 whole grain would send the FT3 over the top.

Your FT4 is low. That might matter and it might not. Some people need higher levels of FT4, some do well on lower levels.

If after, you didn't wait long enough to test. You should stay on a steady dose for six weeks before testing, otherwise, the results are not reliable. It takes at least six weeks for the dose to take full effect - especially the T4 in the NDT.

Besides, you shouldn't increase by 1 whole grain in one go. Increases of NDT should be maximum 1/4 grain every two weeks. Why did you increase, anyway? Do you still feel hypo?

Hi Grey goose,

Thank you so much for your reply. The blood tests were before I increased my dose.

Blood tests 16.12.20.

Felt so awful health been deteriorating , particularly, after the last 2 years.

Could not function very well...

Increased by a half then another.

Total 2 x NDT...Feel a lot better.

Was concerned about iron, folate etc..

Many thanks to you.

A common mistake! lol

Well, if you feel better, that's good. But, any doctor seeing your next set of results will probably have a heart attack! So, be prepared.

SlowDragon has given you good advice on your nutrients. :)
