Hi,

I'd really appreciate some help and if someone could look at my Thyroid and blood test results. I'm trying to conceive and therefore am anxious to get things right!

TSH: 2.65 (Ref 0.27-4.2)

Free T4: 20.62 (Ref 12-22)

Free T3: 4.53 (Ref 3.1-6.8)

TPO : 30.1 Negative (Ref <34 IU/ml Negative)

Folate: 19.98 (Ref 3.89 -26.8)

B12: 155 (Ref 37.5- 188)

Ferritin: 67.8 (Ref 13-150)

What do you all think?

Are you diagnosed as hypothyroid and on Levothyroxine? If so how much are you taking and how long at that dose?

Your TSH is slightly too high, according to guidelines TSH should be under 2.5.

On Levothyroxine you may need TSH lower than that

Have you had vitamin D tested?

If not ask GP or test here

Or ever had TG antibodies tested? Some patients are negative TPO but high TG antibodies

Have TPO antibodies been higher in the past ?

Hi, I'm not on any medication at the moment. Was wondering if I should be. Especially as I'm over the 2.5 for TTC.

TG Antibodies was 19.4 (Ref < 115)

TPO hasn't been higher in the past

My vitamin D is slightly low 47 PMOL (ref 50+)

What do you think?

Supplementing vitamin D to improve levels obviously first step

Your FT4 is very good

TSH may improve once vitamin D is optimal.

That's vitamin D at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better.

Ferritin doesn't really want to drop any further

Eating liver or liver pate once a week, plus other iron rich foods like black pudding, prawns, spinach, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily vitamin C can help improve iron absorption

Liver and pate are apparently no longer allowed when pregnant

You might try strictly gluten free diet, TPO antibodies may drop lower as result. Or they may drop anyway

Thanks for the reply, do you think I need to press the GP for Levothyroxine or should I try the Vitamin D first?

Try vitamin D and increase iron rich foods for ferritin

Your FT4 is very good

Perhaps test thyroid levels very soon after conception to see if levels rise

Thank you. Just a bit more information I was vegetarian until about eight months ago and gave up Gluten at that same point after a blood allergy test revealed I might have a medium intolerance to this.

could this be a factor?

Gluten intolerance is very common. Some gluten research suggests everyone is intolerant to it, just that when we are well we can cope with it.

It doesn't mean you have Hashimoto's because of gluten intolerance

If on gluten free diet, magnesium levels can be low. Common for magnesium to be low with low vitamin D too. You can increase magnesium levels using skin spray, magnesium flakes in the bath or creme too. You don't have to take supplements

Hi Tracker2, just a thought on the ferritin; Spatone can safely be taken before & during pregnancy and doesn't have nasty side effects. Your ferritin could benefit from improvement before pregnancy.
