Hi. Just got these results back for myself as I have been feeling really tired and lethargic all the time. I have increased my ndt from 1 1/2 grains to 2 grains a day and have supplemented with ferrous fumerate 265mg and methylfolate 400mcg a day. I also self inject B12 roughly every three months. My tsh is too high for me as I know that I feel better when its below 1 but my T3 is at a good level. I can't take synthetic T4 as it sets my heart off with horrendous palps and tachycardia. Any advice please.

Your FT3 isn't that good, if you still have symptoms. There's plenty of room for a small increase. :)

Considering that NDT has been in use, safely, since 1892 it has a good long record and saved lives. It is also made from pigs' thyroid glands and has more thyroid hormones within it than levothyroxine which is T4 alone. One of our Advisers only took a blood test for the initial diagnosis and thereafter it was all about the relief of symptoms and hormone adjustments.

Also the blood tests used nowadays were introduced along with levothyroxine (T4) therefore if we take NDT or add T3 to T4, the results cannot correlate and it is all about 'how the patient feels on doses'. If on NDT you can increase 1/4 tablet every 2 weeks (if they are 1 gr tablets). Always take note of your symptoms - whether new ones relieved also pulse/temp if either of the latter two go too high, reduce to previous dose.

I also had the same reaction to levo that you had i.e. horrific palps and tachycardia and had to call ambulance quite a number of times.

Thanks. i will increase slightly and see what happens. Unfortunately I am under a lot of stress at the moment which isn't helping either! I ended up in A & E after gp told me to add synthetic T4 to my nature-throid. My heart rate was 220 and wouldn't slow down despite me trying to take long slow deep breaths and sitting still. It was very scary. Never taken any t4 since that episode.

Not what you're looking for?
