Adrenal Gland Improvement

Just wondering if anyone might care to give an opinion on my adrenal saliva results.

I've had several tests done over the past few years, but as I experienced problems initially when I switched to NDT in October 2016, I took some supplements for adrenal fatigue, but had a test done mid 2017 and added in more supplements.

Decided to do another test just a couple of weeks ago and it looks as though things have improved, so wondering if I might be able to let go of some of the supplements as it's quite expensive to keep them going!

Here's the results:-

21.06.2017ADRENAL SALIVA (via Medichecks)

Time Result Range

Waking * 21.31 14.00 – 21.00High

12.00 * 10.27 4.00 – 9.00High

16.00 * 7.30 2.50 – 7.00High

Before bed * 8.31 0.80 – 4.50High

16.05.2018 Adrenal Saliva (via Medichecks)

WAKING 10.900 nmol/L 6.00 - 21.00

12:00 3.600 nmol/L 1.50 - 7.60

16:00 1.890 nmol/L 0.00 - 5.49 BEFORE BED 1.810 nmol/L 0.00 - 1.99

Supplements I've been taking

Through part of last year I was using bio identical progesterone cream twice a day but stopped this at Christmas 2017 as I felt I had some symptoms which indicated I may not need it anymore.

Magnesium 120mg x 2 daily

Vitamin C 1000mg x 1 daily

Selenium 200mcg x 1 daily

Zinc 45mg x 1 daily

Vitamin B5 can't remember dose

Vitamin B6 can't remember dose

Ashwagandha 340mg x 2 daily

Any thoughts.

I don't have a DHEA recent result, but in a previous year it was low, but I'm 63 years old, post menopausal, so would expect a low result. I've tried taking DHEA tablets and couldn't tolerate them. Was introduced to DHEA cream by a private doctor (at great expense) but it was at a time when I'd been in hospital with a cardiac 'event' and was put on 2 blood thinners. Can't use DHEA if you're taking blood thinners, so I didn't ever use it. By the time I came off 1 blood thinner the DHEA cream was out of date!

Many thanks

I read somewhere that maintenance dose of selenium is 200 mcg 3 Times a week.

in reply to Annkapp

Ah that's what I was wondering, though one of my antibody levels was still a little high in January on a test I had done and I believe Selenium is supposed to be useful for helping to get those down?

I’m not sure about the antibody use but it is my understanding the selenium plays a role with thyroid hormone synthesis and with T4 to T3 conversation.

in reply to Annkapp

I have wondered about that. Assume you meant conversion though perhaps t4 does have a bit of a chat with t3 :-)

Yes, conversion though conversation does kind of work too! Lol. ;-)

The enzymes that manufacture thyroid hormones, and that subsequently convert them, are seleno-proteins. That is, a protein with a selenium atom in it.

That is why selenium is so important.

Our need for selenium is often quoted at around 75 micrograms per day (for adults). Bearing in mind that we generally don't suddenly go from a diet slightly low in selenium to one that is selenium-free, we most likely don't need even that much. (Of course, it depends on how efficiently we absorb it.)

But that is far more sensible than the much higher doses people were quoting a few years ago.

Thanks Helvella, so maybe I could keep a maintenance dose going. Perhaps 200mcg 3 times per week as Ann mentioned earlier?
