Hello to all. I've learnt so much about Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism from the forum which has helped over the last 6 months since diagnosis so thank you all very much. In my first post on here, I described my endocrinologist as 'relaxed' but now think he's just lazy! No monitoring - it's been up to me from the start to contact him after an increase and he only ever tests TSH.
I recently contacted him as I wasn't feeling much better a couple of months after the last increase to 87.5mcg (I'm taking 100mcg because I can't be doing with fiddly tablet cutting). He informed me that my thyroid was now under control as my TSH was between 0.5 and 2.5 so my symptoms are because I'm overweight!
Whilst I accept that being overweight doesn't help, it's quite hard to stomach this from him when he knows I was only diagnosed at the suggestion of a very switched-on dietitian when I failed to lose weight on a strict diet. I've also had the same symptoms when 30lbs lighter!
I had a blood test through Blue Horizon last week when I was back in the UK and would be grateful for your experienced views on the results so that I know what's what when I see him again. I am feeling brighter but still have symptoms but perhaps they will improve with further time. On the plus side, my Vit D is heading in the right direction at last!
TSH 0.99 (0.27 - 4.2)
Total Thyroxine (T4) 110 (59 - 154)
Free T4 15.9 (12.0 - 22.0)
Free T3 4.3 (3.1 - 6.8)
TGb antibodies 159.0 (0 - 115)
TPO antibodies 9.1 (0 - 34)
Ferratin 118 (13 - 154)
Vit B12 593 (197 - 771)
Folate 8.7 ( > 2.9)
Vit D 66 (50 - 200)
Very many thanks in anticipation.

Well you have Hashimoto's, so are you on strictly gluten free diet, if not then definitely worth trying
Hashimoto's very often affects the gut, leading to low stomach acid, low vitamin levels and leaky gut. About 5% are coeliac, but over 80% of us find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms.
Thanks SlowDragon, not GF yet but I do know it’s the way forward. Thanks for the reading matter.
I take ACV each day and am using the BetterYou DLux 3000 spray. This has helped as my level was 31 in August just prior to starting to use.
I’ll ask for an increase. Is it worth querying the FT3 and asking for T3? I’m in Turkey and wonder if it is available over the counter as is levothyroxine.
Personally I have had to be gluten free first. Tried T3 without improving vitamins or GF, got in right pickle
Obviously had no idea about importance of vitamins & Gluten 15 years ago, before this support group and wonderful websites like The Thyroid Pharmacist, Amy Myers and Chris Kresser
